Cancellation Buzz: 'Heroes' Reign Online - Featured

Despite suffering a continuing decline in its ratings as far as television viewers are concerned, the NBC series Heroes apparently has had more luck in reeling in a more robust online audience, according to a media research company.

The Nielsen Co., parent of Nielsen Media Research, ranked Heroes fifth among its list of top online shows, after leader Lost, Saturday Night Live, Grey's Anatomy, and Desperate Housewives. Heroes' highly anticipated new volume attracted only 8.6 million viewers, 1.6 million short of its 10.2 million average.

"As I see it, the broad diversity of top television network entertainment programs online suggests that there is more to online viewership than a simple extension of the TV audience," said John Gibs, vice president of media analytics for Nielsen Online, in a release.

Heroes had 685,000 unique views in December, figures that put it above Ugly Betty, Samantha Who?, Scrubs, Survivor and True Beauty, shows that make the rest of the top 10.
