America Ferrera: "It's Hard to Say Goodbye" to 'Ugly Betty'

If we thought her co-stars were devastated about the cancellation of Ugly Betty, then it must be worse for America Ferrera. The star of the series expressed how difficult it is to leave her character after all these years, but she knows that she has to grow up and take on other projects. However, she still has a few messages to say before she embraces the lack of braces in her life.

"I've lived with this character who I've loved from day one and I have only grown to feel more connected to her and also responsible for making sure her journey is a complete one," the actress told Parade Magazine. Of course, we fans followed her on that expedition and we've seen how much she's changed over four seasons.

"Her entire journey was about a transformation, kind of coming into her womanhood and owning herself both physically and emotionally," the Ugly Betty star went on. "It's hard to say goodbye."

It looks like America Ferrera is still in denial regarding her departure from the series. She doesn't quite want to embrace the end of the show, so she's taking things slow for now.

"I haven't really started going there yet because I still have four episodes to shoot," she said. "So I'm staying in denial for now and I'll deal with all those emotions in a little bit. I imagine that when we finally wrap it's not going to be a dry-eyed goodbye."

Despite saying farewell to Ugly Betty, the actress knows that she really took something out of the whole experience. The entire show wasn't just the character's journey and development; it was also the star's.

"I was 21 when I started and I've learned so much and grown so much as a person," America Ferrera continued. "It has to be about believing in what you're doing."

And next on this actress' list is voicing characters on animated films, something she's obviously excited about. America Ferrera will next be heard on the 3-D animated film, How to Train Your Dragon, which sounds a little like dealing with Wilhelmina Slater.
