While Richard and his friends continue to make very little progress on their season long search for a way to stop the end of the world, the Legend of the Seeker audience is sent on a detour flashback for the first half of the episode. We take a trip down memory lane as one of Darken Rahl's soldiers remembers the "good old days" when Rahl was still in power.
The introduction of Walter, a man who had been a double for Darken Rahl back in the day, has its good and bad points. The best part about the character, and the episode, is that Craig Parker gets a chance to show off his acting chops. Not only does Walter have a completely different demeanor from Rahl, but the voice Parker gives him is sets him apart completely. Parker is given a lot of time to establish that Walter is the opposite of Rahl; Walter is scared and insecure, compared to Rahl's tyrannical rule over the Midlands. Walter's transformation into Rahl's double is like a terrifying version of one of those makeover shows. Instead of money for new clothes and makeup tips, Walter is stretched on the rack so he will be taller and punched in the face to fix his nose.
