Shows Where Music Plays a Role

EW has assembled a list of 15 shows where they consider the music to be a "costar" (as in, takes on an important role).

They include:

The O.C.

The Hills

Entourage

Gilmore Girls

Grey's Anatomy

Swingtown

The L Word

Greek

One Tree Hill

Miami Vice

Beverly Hills 90210 (the original)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Felicity

Veronica Mars

Dawson's Creek

Any shows missing from this list?

One addition for me would be Scrubs, which I can only assume Zach Braff has contributed to musical selections because they frequently sound straight off of the Garden State soundtrack. Also, for the record, EW mentions "How to Save a Life" as being prominent in Grey's, but that song was actually featured first in Scrubs! I remember it distinctly.

Also, who finds it interesting that the vast majority of shows where music is viewed to be prominent is in shows geared towards young people?

Rachel, just wanted to know what's up with all of the links that have Zango and surveys attached to them? It's getting quiet frustrating. I really love this site, but may have to go somewhere else to watch my shows because I am not installing anything or doing surveys so someone can get my email address and send me more spam. :)

Scrubs has the best soundtrack out of all the shows. It has turned me on to so many great tracks! Winter by Josh Groban (I think thats his name anyway!) Cant get enough of that song. I would put Scrubs at the top of the list! :DIf I remember correctly I think Smallville used music pretty well. But I could be wrong I stopped watching it a couple of years ago! Its really hard to think of the shows that do it best. Because part of their quality is that the music is unobtrusive and flows like a stream of consciousness through out the episodes to help direct the audience to emotions etc...

a great call with scrubs, woulda thought it coulda nearly been top of the list! and your right about "how to save a life"...was featured on scrubs, the ep. where all of perrys patients die from infected organ donations, well before the cd was even released, let along when it was played ad nauseum on the greys adverts!

I agree...I love the feel that the classic rock contributes to Supernatural. Very fitting. The licensing for those songs must be pricey though!

House, specifically in the first season. Songs like "One is the loneliest number" by Three Dog Night, or "You can't always get what you want" by The Rolling Stones, or "Teenage Wasteland" by the Who, are great parts of early episodes.
