'American Idol' has a shocker elimination in store - report

It sounds like "American Idol's" Top 7 results show will be a wild wide Thursday night (April 12), as multiple sources are teasing a huge shocker of an elimination.TMZ has an insider saying that producers are scrambling to convince the judges to use their save tonight, as the person going home is someone they think is one of the strongest on the show. In fact, two of the Bottom 3 are two of the favorites and the producers are as stunned now as they were when Jennifer Hudson was kicked off.Meanwhile, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe pretty much confirms it by tweeting, "Okay no BS I am truly shocked by tonight's #AmericanIdol result! #idon'tunderstand!"And host Ryan Seacrest adds on Twitter, "There is a result tonight on @AmericanIdol that some would say is very shocking!"So, what are you bets, "Idol" fans? We would not be surprised if it turns out to be Jessica Sanchez and the judges... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/04/american-idol-has-a-shocker-elimination-in-store---report.html

'American Idol': Will the judges save someone?

As we were reminded in the beginning of "American Idol's" Top 7 performance show, during which the finalists tackled songs from the last three years, judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have just two more opportunities to use their Judges' Save before the opportunity vanishes back into Nigel Lythgoe's box of ratings tricks. So, are they going to use it at all?Short answer: Yes, we think so. Ratings aren't what they used to be, so the show needs every opportunity it can to spark water cooler talking points. Plus, the level of talent this year is so deep that every single member of the Top 7 is a serious contender. (Yes, even Hollie Cavanagh, whom the judges seemed a little too harsh on after a much-improved rendition of Pink's "Perfect.")Zap2it spoke with the finalists backstage after their Top 7 performances, and they said they really think the save will be used soon. (Of... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/04/american-idol-will-the-judges-save-someone.html

American Idol Top 7 Perform: What Makes Idol Beautiful

Before I actually get to the show, I'd like to apologize for missing last week's results recap. Unfortunately lack of Internet plus a holiday weekend made for busy times. I can't say that I was terribly surprised by Deandre's exit. And I can't say I'll be shocked at whoever gets booted tonight, because 'Songs from this Decade' night on American Idol turned out pretty well. Before I get to any specifics on performances, I'd like to hand out some advice for all the contestants. Stop picking obvious songs. If there was one constant for most of the night, it was that every performance had a certain predictability to it. This was good in some ways, as it reemphasized that the contestants left on American Idol know who they are, and that they can sing songs that are on today's charts. On the other hand, it indicates there are no surprises left, that there is no "Heartless" around the corner. Which makes this season precariously close to season 9 in that I can't bring myself to really care who wins, because no one is going that extra mile for me. So please, if you can't stop picking obvious songs, then do something with the ones you have. 'American Idol': Alleged rivals Colton Dixon and Phillip Phillips weigh in on their so-called feud

In Jimmy Iovine's mind, both Colton Dixon and Phillip Phillips can't make it to the "American Idol" final in May. So the Interscope Records chairman and "Idol" mentor made sure to encourage a little friendly competition between the two finalists when he helped them with their Top 7 songs. Dixon and Phillips aren't buying it, however. Both guys tell Zap2it backstage after their performances that there's no rivalry there, and Iovine was simply stirring up drama for drama's sake. "I think that 'American Idol' is a TV show, and I think that Jimmy was trying to start something," Dixon explains. "I hope that he didn't. I hope that America sees past what Jimmy was trying to do."Iovine tried to fire up the boys by pitting them against each other, as evidenced on the Top 7 performance show. "It's you against Phillip, let's cut the [expletive]," he tells Dixon during the mentoring session with Akon. "I think... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/04/american-idol-rivals-colton-dixon-and-phillip-phillips-weigh-in-on-their-so-called-feud.html

'American Idol': Did Hollie Cavanagh deserve the judges' wrath for 'Perfect'?

The "American Idol" finalists are in it to win it, dawg (as Randy Jackson might say) -- did you see the Top 7 all absolutely slay their solo numbers during "Top 100 hits from the last three years" week? (Clunky title, yes.) For the most part, Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler loved the performances, but for some reason they seemed unnecessarily harsh on Hollie Cavanagh, who had her best week yet on the Pink hit "Perfect."Zap2it caught up with the tiny Texan after the show to talk about the seemingly unfair criticism of her performance. "I've been in the bottom the the past two weeks now and I just keep getting bad feedback. I don't feel like my performances are horrible," she confesses. "Maybe other people have more experience and control. There are so many things that go into singing, I just -- I don't know. Elise [Testone] was actually really sweet to me.... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/04/american-idol-did-hollie-cavanagh-deserve-the-judges-wrath-for-perfect.html

'American Idol's' Elise Testone: Jason Segel is a fan, plus an awesome Lady Gaga cover

We always knew there was a reason we loved Jason Segel. (OK, there are many reasons, 'cause he rocks.) But he sent a video message to Elise Testone to tell her how much he loves her on the show! How great is that?! And you know it's legit, because he's not on FOX show and being forced to do it.But anyway, but Songs of This Decade week on "American Idol," Elise tackles Lady Gaga's "You and I" and she absolutely kills it. The judges loved it, the audience loved. Randy kept shouting how Elise is back now (after last week, which they didn't love). This better keep her out of the Bottom 3. What did you think, "Idol" fans? Does Elise have your votes tonight?... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/04/american-idols-elise-testone-jason-segel-is-a-fan-plus-an-awesome-lady-gaga-cover.html

'American Idol': Jessica Sanchez's 'Stuttering' slays the competition

For Songs from This Decade week on "American Idol," Jessica Sanchez chose "Stuttering" by Jasmine Sullivan, which is not a song we were familiar with before tonight. Usually, choosing a lesser-known song is a bit of a risk for a contestant, but not Jessica. She sang that song like it was her own, totally killed it. It is astounding that she is so young.Randy summed it up best with, "That was superb. That was at like the highest degree. The control, you scatting and all of this ... you did an amazing job." And Steven was also complimentary. Jennifer weirdly advised her to be as "impactful" as Joshua, though we would argue she has been and more. Joshua's kind of a one-trick pony. But anyway. Jessica was amazing, as usual. Will she be getting your votes? Don't get complacent, that's how somebody good winds up in the bottom.... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/04/american-idol-jessica-sanchezs-stuttering-slays-the-competition.html

'American Idol': Skylar Laine covers Kellie Pickler and nails it

For Songs from This Decade week on "American Idol," Skylar Laine took on a former "Idol" finalist with Kellie Pickler's "Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You." It was a great follow-up from last week. Her "Wind Beneath My Wings" was excellent, but isn't current, whereas this song is something Skylar would release. The judges loved it too. Randy and Jennifer were complimentary of her pitch and Randy astutely said that's exactly the type of record she could have a hit with. And then Steven tylers, "When you sing a song, it's a complete sentence," or some kind of nonsense. But we'll assume that was a compliment. What did you think of Skylar? Has she come on to be a serious contender? We think she has. Did she get your votes tonight?... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/04/american-idol-skylar-laine-covers-kellie-pickler-and-nails-it.html

'American Idol' Top 7 talk Akon, their Top 100-charting mentor

"American Idol" brought in an appropriately current mentor to advise the Top 7 finalists when they take on chart-topping hits from the past three years -- Akon, the man who's sung, guested on or produced dozens of Top 100 hits."It was cool! He's very handsome," finalist Elise Testone tells Zap2it of her time spent with Akon during her mentoring session. "We were laughing. We had a really good time. He's very down to Earth. We just talked like we were old friends or something. He had a lot of great advice."Colton Dixon says he loved the relaxed atmosphere during what turned out to be a very hard day for him (he had difficulties with his song choice). "He was fantastic -- a very, very, cool, chill guy and he had great advice," Dixon says. "Very positive things to say, and needless to say I needed to hear some positive things in that session that day.... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/04/american-idol-top-7-talk-akon-their-top-100-charting-mentor.html

'American Idol' Top 7 set list: Kelly Clarkson, Gotye, Maroon 5 and more

It's that time again! The "American Idol" finalists will perform contemporary songs -- ie Top 100 tunes from the past three years -- when they take the stage for the Top 7 performance show. So, what will the gang be singing? Plenty of Kelly Clarkson, some Bruno Mars, a little Lady Gaga, a little Pink, some Jazmine Sullivan and more.Check out the full set list:"You and I," Lady Gaga "Stuttering," Jazmine Sullivan "Didn't Know How Much I Loved You," Kellie Pickler "Perfect," Pink "Love the Way You Lie," Skylar Grey "Give a Little More," Maroon 5 "Runaway Baby," Bruno Mars "Somebody I Used to Know," Gotye "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)," Kelly Clarkson "Don't You Wanna Stay," Jason Aldean and Kelly ClarksonSome of those will be duets (the Jason/Kelly, obviously, and the Gotye), but this is one week where we're scratching our heads at who's singing what on some of these tunes. We'll predict Elise Testone... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/04/american-idol-top-7-set-list-kelly-clarkson-gotye-maroon-5-and-more.html
