Emmys 2011: 'Boardwalk Empire' dominance, 'Futurama' and other Creative Arts surprises

It's always fun to look at the Creative Arts Emmy winners to see if they hold any predictors of what might happen at the primetime Emmy ceremony. This year's Creative Arts ceremony, just over one week before the primetime awards are given out, is no exception, given some of the surprises that we saw Saturday (Sept. 10).Whether these are any indication of what might happen next Sunday is anybody's guess. But it's sure as heck fun to speculate, right?"Boardwalk Empire" dominates: It wasn't a big stretch to think that the academy voters were going to fall in love with "Boardwalk Empire." It's a sweeping period piece shot on an epic scale, with the pedigree of both Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter behind it. But given the love the academy has had for "Mad Men" during the last three years, it was a surprise to see "Boardwalk" dominate most of the technical awards for drama, including... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/09/emmys-2011-boardwalk-empire.html

'Boardwalk Empire' Season 2 Trailer: Nucky's Surrounded By His Problems (VIDEO)

Nucky Thompson may run Atlantic City, but heavy is the head that wears the crown. HBO has released a new trailer for Season 2 of 'Boardwalk Empire,' and it has the feel of a nightmare, or perhaps a Tony Soprano-style panic attack, in progress. Nucky strolls down the boardwalk, surrounded on all sides by people who want a piece of his time, or worse, his power. A politician who's in business with all kinds of bootleggers and criminals, Steve Buscemi's Thompson seems to be feeling the stress of constantly juggling responsibilities, egos, women, and playing different factions off each other. As each new character walks by, we're reminded of just how deep a milieau of supporting characters 'Boardwalk' created in its first season. There's Jimmy and Al Capone, back from Chicago to claim their piece of the action. There's Chalky White, menacingly played by Michael K. Williams, who Nucky relies on and exploits for cheap bootlegging labor. Eli Thompson, the chief of police, stands alone brooding, having hatched a plot with Jimmy and the Commodore to take his brother Nucky down in last season's finale. Check out the trailer after the jump. http://www.aoltv.com/2011/08/09/boardwalk-empire-season-two-trailer-nuckys-surrounded-by-his-problems/

'Boardwalk Empire,' 'Bored to Death' and more HBO fall premieres (including two on Mondays)

HBO will try to stake out a place for original programming on Monday nights in the fall with a pair of comedies. The third season of "Bored to Death" and the new comedy "Enlightened" will form a one-hour block at 9 p.m. ET Mondays starting Oct. 10. HBO hasn't aired original series on any night other than Sunday in several years -- since the final season of "Six Feet Under" aired on Mondays in 2005, to be exact. But HBO has five series on the air in the fall, and since it doesn't air shows before 9 p.m. ET in on Sundays, they won't all fit in primetime. HBO co-president Richard Plepler also notes that about half of the viewership, and sometimes more, for original series comes from repeat airings, DVRs, on-demand and HBO Go, so he's fairly confident an audience will find the Monday shows. In addition to "Bored to Death" and "Enlightened," HBO will also roll... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/07/boardwalk-empire-bored-to-death-and-more-hbo-fall-premieres-including-two-on-mondays.html
