The dragons deactivate Face after destroying all of the bombs across Ishgal, successfully preventing E.N.D.'s revival. Acnologia gains a second wind and resumes his fight with Igneel, leaving Natsu and Gray to argue over whether to destroy E.N.D.'s book. However, Zeref retrieves the book and incinerates Mard Geer before vanishing. Igneel telepathically contacts Natsu, explaining that he and the other dragons sealed themselves within the dragon slayers to immunize them from becoming dragons like Acnologia, and to have the opportunity of killing Acnologia themselves. Natsu watches helplessly as Igneel, after tearing off Acnologia's arm, is himself torn asunder and blasted by Acnologia's dragon roar.
