Michelle is looking forward to Richard’s return from Asia but when he’s held up she’s furious – mostly with herself for caring. He manages to get another flight and all is well for a minute. But Michelle can’t let herself trust him and starts to think he is too perfect. Catherine worries that she is obsessing. Michelle denies it, but seeks out his ex-wife to find out what went wrong. She can’t accept that there’s no salacious story and in the end she pushes Richard too far. He thinks there’s something seriously wrong with her. Meanwhile, Emma is scared when a strange man turns up but it turns out to be Brian’s mate Nige. Brian is helping Courtney with her baby – Sonny Bill – so Emma takes Nige to quiz night and is delighted to find him charming company. Brian is delighted to see his old mate, but Nige is concerned how much Brian has changed. He suggests a night out but Brian pleads domestic concerns. Nige is worried that Courtney is taking advantage of Brian and suggests a DNA test. Brian is reluctant but Nige enlists Emma’s support. Courtney is furious at the suggestion but eventually agrees. Nige makes a pass at Emma and when she rebuffs him, moves quickly to cover his tracks. He tells Brian the DNA test was Emma’s idea. They arrive home late and drunk and Brian is angry with Emma. She realises Nige is not the nice guy he pretends to be but can’t tell Brian because she knows he’ll be hurt. Nige goes to stay with another mate and Brian blames Emma. Later, Nige hooks up with Michelle and they have drunken meaningless sex. The DNA results arrive; the baby is Brian’s.
