While training near Cynthia's villa, Ash and friends stumble across a Vullaby and Rufflet who are attacking each other. Soon, a girl named Layla arrives and reveals that the two Pokémon are being cared for at the nursery she works at nearby. While at the nursery they learn that Vullaby and Rufflet are new to the nursery and fight with each other all the time. Being a Pokémon Connoisseur, Cilan is eager to help Layla with the two Pokémon. At first things are going well, but following another fight with Rufflet during lunchtime Vullaby runs away, leaving Cilan and Layla to give chance into the woods.
