Subaru wakes up at Roswaal's mansion and meets Beatrice in the library after wandering in an endless loop in the hallway. Beatrice drains his mana causing him to fall unconscious. He then wakes up again with the maid twins Ram and Rem in the bedroom. He then reunites with Emilia and Puck, and then meets Roswaal, who tells him that Emilia needs the insignia to be qualified as a candidate of the next monarch in the upcoming royal election. As gratitude for getting the insignia back, Subaru asks to work at the mansion as a butler. Working alongside Ram and Rem, Subaru struggles with all of his duties during his first five days on the job leading Roswaal to believe that he is better suited for another role with his carefree attitude. That night, Subaru talks to Emilia about his struggles and efforts on the job, and Emilia agrees to go on a date with him the next day to a village to watch the kids. However, when Subaru wakes up he finds himself back at the time he woke up with Ram and Rem in the room, realizing that he died in his sleep that night.
