When Glee took off, Jane Lynch had to split from the critically-acclaimed but little-seen Starz catering crew comedy Party Down. She was replaced for the rest of the first season by her Best in Show lover Jennifer Coolidge, and then her shoes were filled by the eminently capable Megan Mullally for season two. Mullally's Lydia Dunfree was a gung ho stage mom from Middle America with a habit of trying to sidle up to single men while catering their events, and could be both sweetly maternal and bitingly caustic. Both Dunfree and Lynch's former T&A comedy star Constance Carmell were top-notch characters, making for a six of one/half dozen of the other split that never felt like a downgrade. They finally met, if acrimoniously, in the show's final episode.
