Reviews of The CW's Reign and The Tomorrow People - Report from the TCAs

Reign is a youth-obsessed drama about Mary Stuart, the teen who would become Mary, Queen of Scots, and her four teenage ladies-in-waiting as they arrive in France for Mary’s arranged marriage to the handsome Prince Francis. Political, social and sexual intrigues ensue as Mary heads toward her destiny. Adelaide Kane is strong as Mary and Toby Regbo is great as Francis. Reign is basically a 16th century teen soap opera and will likely appeal to the CW’s core female demographic. For others, however, it may be a short reign. Premieres Oct. 17 at 9pm.

The Tomorrow People is an intriguing if not quite successful sci-fi drama about a paranormal species of humans born with powers of telekinesis, teleportation and telepathic communications who are being hunted by a nefarious government group that sees them as a threat to humanity and is out to destroy them. The action centers on high-schooler Stephen Jameson (Robbie Amell) as he is brought into the Tomorrow People fold and learns that he may be the key to saving the Tomorrow People race. Amell is solid as is the fine supporting cast that includes Peyton List and Luke Mitchell. Premieres Oct. 9 at 9pm.
