The Most Important Shows on TV: Week of January 11, 2016

Which TV series will your friends (and the entire internet) be talking about this week? Stay informed—or at least be able to fake it — with SideReel's weekly guide to The Most Important Shows on TV.

The Bachelor: S20E2

The Bachelor

Monday at 8:00pm on ABC

Why: You know what? Just read this episode description, because it's SELF-EXPLANATORY: "Ben takes 10 ladies back to school where they battle to become homecoming queen. Later, Ice Cube and Kevin Hart show up on a date; singer Amos Lee performs for Ben and a lucky bachelorette; and six ladies visit L.A.'s "Love Lab" to see who is the best match for Ben."

Prepare to talk about: How this sounds like the worst date activity ever! "Were you ever hot enough to be homecoming queen? GET READY TO RELIVE THE MISERY!" Whether Ice Cube and Kevin Hart are going out on a date with each other or with the contestants, because from that description it's not entirely clear; who Amos Lee is; how the Love Lab certainly sounds like it's just The Bachelor outsourcing its entire premise to internet dating.

Shadowhunters: S1E1

Shadowhunters (Series Premiere)

Tuesday at 9:00pm on Freeform

Why: Last week we had the premiere of Magic Sexy Teens: The Series, Based on the Novel and this week we have the premiere of Angel Sexy Teens: The Series, Based on the Novel! Clary Fray and her drool-worthy red hair fight demons in this book-to-television adaptation that has nothing to do with the previous book-to-movie adaptation. Also, it's the night ABC Family turns into Freeform, so get ready for all new hashtags, I guess.

Prepare to talk about: How Buffy did it better; how this show HAS to be better than the movie (because the movie was soooooooo bad; really just sooooooooo bad); whether Freeform is a good name for a network (hint: no).

Colony: S1E1

Colony (Series Premiere)

Thursday at 10:00pm on USA Network

Why: Aliens invade and take away our freedom, but longhaired Josh Holloway (aka Sawyer from Lost) gets ready to fight them off. It's like Falling Skies but maybe actually interesting (Falling Skies was so boring I fell asleep in the first episode, which isn't good because I've watched truly horrifically boring television before and never fallen asleep), and less "end of the world/perpetually night"-ish.

Prepare to talk about: How Josh Holloway is still terrifically attractive even if you think he should cut his hair sometimes; how you're not ready to trust Carlton Cuse again after what happened with Lost; how you're still angry about the Lost finale.

He ain't cute not with that half ass beard. That style of hair totally doesn't go well with that beard. It's like two different personalities are in control of his hair situation.

The Premier of shadowhunters just annoyed me... scenes like outside the church where 'generic hot dude 1' killed the demon, then the body appeared... and the first thing obligatory-nerd-best-friend did was say "there is a dead body, we need to call the police"... not... oh, a dead body just appeared out of nowhere.. followed by hot dude 1... my entire world and belief system has changed and I'm going to go catatonic and regress into foetul position. Don't even want to discuss the cliche love triangle, nerd loves girl, girl loves hot guy, hot guy is too brooding for relationships.... all so very lame

Just realised I watched the first two lame episodes... and some of that might be spoilers
