The Most Important Shows on TV: Week of February 22, 2016

Which TV series will your friends (and the entire internet) be talking about this week? Stay informed—or at least be able to fake it — with SideReel's weekly guide to The Most Important Shows on TV.

The X-Files (2016): S1E6

The X-Files (Season Finale)

Monday at 8:00pm on FOX

Why: Because the truth is finally here, they claim. And that's probably helpful because it seems the entire country has fallen ill, and it's not Zika virus or Chipotle. No, everyone's got alien DNA lurking inside them and that clearly isn't going to be used for anything good. Confession: I'm not - and never have been - an X-Files girl. BUT, I've been told that besides the first episode (which was meh), this reboot has been pretty good! True? False? At any rate, this episode is the conclusion to that lackluster opener, so, in the very least, Tad O'Malley (Joel McHale) is back! Swoon.

Prepare to talk about: How much you hate Miller and Einstein (all we need are Mulder and Scully so GO AWAY YOU GUYS); how this one-time limited-event series *might* actually come back yet again; how they better bring it back again because Chris Carter told us that the thing ends on a giant cliffhanger (mean).

Fuller House: S1E1

Fuller House (Series Premiere)

Friday at 3:00am on Netflix

Why: Because everywhere you look, everywhere you go, there's a heart (there's a heart!). A hand to hold onto. Everywhere you look, everywhere you go, there's a place, of somebody who needs you. ALSO...When you're lost out there and you're all alone, a light is waiting to carry you home. Chip-a-dee-ba-ba-dow. Sorry, had to do it. Also, bonus, Carly Rae Jepsen sings this theme song now and she's my favorite. See you at her concert this weekend, San Franciscans.

Prepare to talk about: How much better this show would be if Mary-Kate and Ashley were there (everyone <3s the Olsen twins); if Comet is enjoying dog heaven; how they are slowly resurrecting every single show from TGIF (Step By Step should be next, amirite?); how we all kind of forgot that Full House was never really a very good show to begin with (sorry guys, but, #truth).

Academy Awards: S88E1

The 88th Annual Academy Awards

Sunday at 4:00pm Live on ABC

Why: The famous people! The *beautiful* famous people! The best dressed! The worst dressed! The speeches? But seriously, who doesn't enjoy watching all the beautiful, famous people celebrate themselves (I'm not even kidding; I. LOVE. AWARDS SHOWS.)? The Oscars are basically like the Super Bowl, but infinitely better, in that you still get to get together with your friends, eat pizza, drink, and make jokes, but instead of watching a boring football game (sorry), you get to watch a bunch of sexy movie stars.

Prepare to talk about: How this is Leo's year, or whatever; how you totally are going to go and see The Revenant soon (ARE YOU, though?); how no matter who wins, the Academy really messed things up this year (#OscarsSoWhite, again).
