Spring Anime Picks

It is officially springtime and that means one thing, it's a new season for anime! Below I've gathered together some of the awesome anime you should be checking out this spring!

Children of the Whales

This is an anime about a mysterious civilization set upon a mud whale in a sea of sand. So to say it's a trippy show is a total understatement. A recent addition to Netflix, this anime is definitely worth giving a shot if you like psychological or magical anime. Spoiler alert: The show is cute for a little while but this anime is NOT kid friendly. It's violent, thought provoking, and an oddball delight. Children of the Whales is beautifully animated and totally worth watching!

Prince of Stride: Alternative

Are you having trouble snapping out of your winter coma? Maybe you just want to feel invigorated? If you need some pep in your step check out this sports anime about a competitive running competition called Stride. I'm quick to admit that sports anime aren't necessarily my thing but this brief 12 episode series is certain to put a spring in your step. Watching parkour style runners working together is sure to give you a burst of energy, or an appreciation for the fanservice. Hot guys abound in this short-running anime ;)

Black Clover

Telling the story of two rival magic users as they use their grimmoires (magic book of spells) to try and best their rival. If you are looking for a longer running anime this is a great choice. Black Clover is funny, entertaining to watch, and very visually engaging. If you are fans of shows all about magic, Black Clover will become a fast favorite!

Dagashi Kashi

If you have a sweet tooth, love candy, or classic anime comedy then Dagashi Kashi is the perfect choice for you! Telling the story of a shop owner's son, every episode is a combo of sweet treats and laughs. The dubbed second season of this show is airing now!

King's Game

If you like survival games, horror anime, or just a show with a whole lot of dying you have to check out King's Game. A class of students receive text messages from "The King" giving them disturbing orders and warning they'll be punished if they don't follow them. Every episode the series gets darker, with some truly horrific horror highlights. If you like your shows twisted it's definitely a good choice.

Wouldn't the Children of the Whales be called Calfs? Nice list though! Do you know which of these have English Dubs available?

Maybe the list is for dubbed anime exclusively but I don't recall being more excited for a new anime season and it's not for any of the shows listed. Steins;Gate 0 and the latest season of Boku No Hero Academia start this season and I would have thought they'd make an appearance here, I have a number of other shows I'm looking forward to but those two are undeniably important.

Covaxe this is an anime reccomendation list for the spring, not for the spring anime season. Sorry I can see how that might be confusing. You are totally right this spring anime season is so exciting. Steins; Gate, Boku no Hero Academia, and Shokugeki No Soma are all airing followups this season!!!

Definitely Black Clover. It is not as cute as fairy tail but it has a lot of magic and a similar feel. Of course if you haven’t seen the second fairy tail movie I would reccomend that too!!!

I hope you like it too. I was thinking of other shows like Fairy Tail and if you have not seen it, The Seven Deadly Sins on netflix is verrrrrry similar.

Thanks so much @Covaxe for mentioning Steins;Gate 0! I’m a huge fan of the original. ... Black Clover: Asta is totally the extreme opposite of “charming” (intentionally so), but I got through half the season and thought it was OK. Might finish it soon to see where it goes. Children of the Whales sounds intriguing. Might also try King’s Game. I like twists and twisted. Thanks for the reccs!

Children of the Whales was a decent watch, if not mostly for the visuals. Helps that it's on Netflix and has a decent story. I'd actually recommend it.
Dagashi Kashi is a very weak series I would not recommend, however there has been a hole left in this genre after "Working!", so if you're desperate...
Black Clover is your regular run-of-the-mill shounen series, much like Naruto/Bleach/Fairy Tail. Seeing the 5-minute recaps of the last episode should have a familiar "feel" to it for the fans of such shows. Worth the watch so far (28 eps aired).

Can't comment on Prince of Stride as I try to limit my sports anime to really, really good shows and this is too fringe for me to check out. Eyeshield 21, One Outs, Major - just incomparable to anything else imho. Diamond no Ace if it really has to be recent.

Last but not least, King's Game, with a whooping 1.887/5.0 seems to be a real miss here. I pride myself in watching every show till the end no matter how bad things get, but even I had to say no to this one. Watch "another" , "Death Parade" or even "Mirai Nikki" for a much better time.

Just my 2cents, disregard all of it if so inclined.
