Finale Fever: SideReel's Top 10 Favorite Season Finales, Part 2

24 - Season 1, 11:00 P.M.-12:00 A.M.

Sorry to admit it, but I lost interest in 24 near the beginning of last season, and have been unable to get back into it since. That being said, the show has had some great seasons, and though people debate which one is their favorite, none for me have ever outdone the thrilling first season, and its thrilling conclusion. Spoiler alert The death of Jack's wife (followed by the now infamous silent countdown clock, reserved for only the most solemn of '24' events) was simply the most unexpected, surprising and fantastic ending that I could have possibly fathomed. Unlike other shows, this shocking event also taught us that important people actually die in 24, which made future seasons all the more exciting.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season 2, Becoming (1 and 2)

I knew I wanted to put a Buffy finale on this list, and I had a difficult time choosing between Season 2 (the one I ultimately selected) and Season 3 (because Graduation was pretty awesome too...). However, I decided that nothing topped the delving into Angel's past and Buffy's realizing that she would have to kill him (Angelus). Then throw in that Angel's soul gets restored after all, but Buffy still had to send him to Hell...you know, to save the world (as Angel's blood is the only thing that will do the trick). Man oh Man, talk about tragedy. This was definitely Buffy at its finest...

Alias - Season 1, Almost Thirty Years

Episode after episode of Alias's first season would conclude with a giant cliffhanger that made you go crazy waiting for the next week to arrive. So, it shouldn't be surprising that nothing outdid the Season 1 Finale's cliffhanger. Spoiler Alert The giant Rambaldi device is destroyed by Sydney, simultaneously releasing a ton of water. While Sydney manages to get through a closing door and escape the tidal wave, Vaughn is seemingly left to drown. However, most importantly, Sydney finally comes face to face with "The Man" and her season ending words are..."Mom?" (who mind you, was supposed to be dead; thus, Mom is not only not dead, but alive and evil).

Friends (1994) - Season 4, The One with Ross's Wedding (1 and 2)

Since our finale list has been heavy on the dramas, it's only fair to recognize a comedy finale. Friends had a few great season finales (also loved Season 5's One in Vegas), but I am especially partial to this one, as it also happened to be the first episode that I ever watched of the series (what a great way to start)! This episode was a comedy of errors in relation to all things Ross's wedding, culminating in his marriage-ruining "Rachel" slip at the altar. However, I also loved this finale as it was the beginning of the Chandler/Monica pairing, which provided great new direction for the comedy in its later seasons.

Prison Break - Season 1, Flight

Like 24, Prison Break for me was a show that couldn't maintain the excitement of its earlier seasons. Nothing outdid the show's first season (in my opinion), which you might have guessed, climaxed when the guys actually achieved the show's title and broke out of prison! We had some serious violence in this episode; I will never forget T-Bag's hand getting hacked off. Other huge revelations: Sarah ODing, Steadman's alive!, the President gets assassinated and the guys don't catch their plane, thereby setting up Season 2.

Buffy becoming pt 1 and 2 is a great choice ya just can't believe it urself when he gets his soul back at the worst possible time, poor buff :(. I love season 6's ending as well with evil willow and xander.
What about veronica mars? season 1 finale where we find out that it was Logans father who murdered Lily and he almost kills veronica if it wasn't for her father nearly gettin burned alive saving her.Oh better yet The last episode of season 2 'not pictured', graduation, finding out that it was cassidy cassablancas 'Beaver' who blew up the school bus to stop 2 of the fellas on it from comng out and tellng every1 that woody goodman molested them when they played for his little league team, the last 15 minutes of the episode are just brilliant findng out that veronica was actually raped by beaver, not to mention that ya actually believed that beaver had just killed her father along with goodman on his private plane,Logan saving the day and ya can't help feeling slightly sorry for cassidy when logan can't give him a reason for not jumping off the roof to his death 'my name is cassidy!!!'Great endng to the season and great actingSorry for the long description, i've just bin watchin Vmars again instead of studyn lol

I must have to disagree with a choice of yours. The biggest most shocking season finale for me was Alias' second season finale. When she wakes up in the middle of Japan with no clue whatsoever as to why is she there. Then Vaughn comes in and tell her that 2 years have passed and that everyone thought she was dead.Dude... that is one shocking season finale.

What?!? Maybe I'm just showing my age but I can't believe you haven't got the series finale of Quantum Leap on there. When Sam is given the option to leap wherever he wants and chooses to help Al out by telling Beth not to remarry and the he vanishes over into time. Still brings a tear to my eye....
Also, Star Trek:TNG finale called All Good Things. Awesome! Still a good list though.

I can't believe that Bones isn't up there. Despite the fact that it was annoying that the whole thing was a dream, I still think that the actors did a very good job portraying their characters in this finale. The ending was a little cheesy and could have used a little more work, but overall it was great!

Veronica Mars season 2, as has been repeated. I disagree with Friends season 4, and think it should be season 10's finale, best ever! Also Heroes season 1, it should be season 3, amazing! I do agree with Lost season 3, best ever, and House and Grey's.

hey, why wasn't there any one tree hill finale?gotta crank it up a little bit here..i mean, we can pretty much find everything in oth finales, u know..i mean from the cliffhanger in 2nd and 5th season, to the sad finales, to happy ones in 4th and 6th, so it should've been up there somehow..personally, i love the finale of the 5th season of oth more than the others, i mean it was a cliffhanger, but it was also exciting at the same time..(although the answer to that in the 1st ep 6th season was not the one that i was waiting for, but whatever, i still love it!)
for other series, i also like the finale of 1st season of prison break (gotta agree there), i also like 3rd season of the l word, it was kinda funny actually (not the non-wedding day part, but the gift on the back porch part..if u watch it then u know what im talking about), and the finale of the 5th season of grey's anatomy was also pretty good, i mean it was really sad, but good..

House season, 4 and 5: in the words of the fonz in the waterboy 'I cried, I cried, I cried like a twelve year old girl,' watching s 4's finaleAnd 5's just completely got me by surprise, was made better by the fact that i had to recall exactly what happened in the penultimate episode so the cold realisation hit me as hard as it hit House.
Breaking Bad season 1: All out action from what had been a relatively chilling series up until the finale. Bad-Ass is the only words which suffice.
that's all i have at the moment.

That previously mentioned (by raych) Veronica Mars finale was EXACTLY the episode i thought of that should have been on this list. I seriously cry to this day every time i watch that last few minutes. Cassidy Casablancas just BROKE MY HEART in that episode. Like i cried because of all the things he'd done but i was also crying FOR him. it was gut wrenching...
