Science-fiction with absolutely no restraints, Dan Harmon's wicked sense of humor pushes Rick and Morty to meta-humor heights. The dark sense of humor and unrelenting intelligence behind each script makes Rick and Morty a science-fiction must. The seemingly randomness of the show allows it to come together very nicely and causes an almost boundless amount of material to explore.
A "charming" classic of the supernatural genre, Charmed's Halliwell sisters are fun to watch and the age of the show comes out often in the best of ways. I'm re-watching the series at the moment and the realistic comedy and sentimental moments within the show reveal so much about the three sisters you grow and learn with.
A fantastic television series that became a landmark show for the genre as it never took itself too seriously and had time to involve storylines including time travels, "evil" versions, and a "save the world" plot. Viewers may become disenchanted with the show as the quality begins dipping the further you get past the first season. Sadly though, the show got cancelled before it could redeem itself. Looking forwards to the upcoming 2015 miniseries of the show!
While a lot of supernatural dramas may focus on creep factor and humour, Constantine goes way darker than some shows and explores a very gritty world of demons and witchcraft. Hoping to redeem himself after a tragic loss, Constantine makes for a perfect anti-hero to watch on screen and the choices he makes within the show are darker than those of other television series. Despite it being a ratings failure, I'll consider myself a fan.
While many people may think to overlook The Secret Circle as a failed Vampire Diaries rip-off, the show stood its own ground and created rich character backgrounds and powers that the witches on The Vampire Diaries would be jealous of.
An insightful look into the music industry, Nashville takes the perspective of musicians from several different positions in the industry and follows their rise to stardom, and/or their fall. The show throws curveballs at the right times which cause repercussions throughout the ever entangled group. A great show with great music, Nashville finds itself going for a long career.
Darkly funny, the television adaptation of the movie Fargo doesn't shy away from its source material. Exploring a new town and several different intertwining story lines, this well done series is an anthology to keep looking forward to.
A deeply philosophical, moving sci-fi drama that goes places you would never expect. Like Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, the theme of what creates a real person is constantly discussed. Artificial intelligences, known as the Cylons, plan to wipe out all remnants of humanity as the last of man kind struggle to survive and find a new home. It's an essential watch, not just for science fiction fans, but for all television show bingers looking for the next big show to watch.
The spin-off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer that newer fans won't be as familiar with, Angel is a darker, more dramatic series. Following Angel in Los Angeles, he creates a team to protect people from the forces of evil and law firm Wolfram & Hart (Yes, seriously.) Angel stays at the same level of quality as Buffy and sometimes even surpasses it, as it boasts more complicated stories, darker moral questions, and some spectacular characters. Fred quickly became my favorite character.
A stupendous murder mystery that analyzes the issues a whole town may face when secrets bubble to the surface. Tragic, emotional, and endearing, Broadchurch is a mystery must-watch
