Slow Horses

Four episodes in and loving this British spy show.
The cast and script are brilliant.
The dark humour and sarcasm are bitingly funny.
This is not about the action, it is all about the characters, and the situation they find themselves in.
Gary Oldman and Kristen Scott Thomas deserve awards for their performances.
This looks like a great series to binge watch.

Citadel

Disappointing spy series! Citadel has a great cast but is all over the place in its plotting and delivery. The story is predictable and the scripting childish. As with many shows produced for streaming companies, this could have done with a more aggressive edit. The continuity errors abound and the direction is inconsistent. It is a complete waste of an excellent cast.
While this might appeal to the “Marvel generation” it is not a show for grown ups.

The Equalizer

This could be a good show, but just isn’t.

Like the Taken TV series but dumbed down even further.

The action sequences are done fairly well, and Queen Latifa actually does ok and the supporting actors are not bad, it is the production that sucks.

The dialogue is both clunky and condescending at the same time.
the direction is confused and inconsistent.
the plots are predictable and childish.
but worst of all the production is preachy and so patronising that it is going to turn off those it wants to preach too.

If the producers just took some time to think about the political message they want to convey and actually used the script arc over a season, the actors reactions, and the cinematography to make their point in a grown up way they might actually find an audience going with them.

This show needs Aaron Sorkin style dialogue and scripting to do the political messaging the producers want, rather than the Sesame Street script writers it currently seems to employ. (Actually, to be fair these script writers are not even fit to write dialogue for Elmo or Big Bird)
