I rarely meet a show I don't track... :D I have lists galore as I love all genres of tv, but, hey, it means I never run out of shows! I've found even more shows to watch through some amazing sidereelers' lists! Starting conversations with lists is one of my favorite things about sidereel. I love how we can all love or hate a show yet still have a friendly chat. You'll find me dashing around the site, leaving friendly comments on reviews, shows, lists and articles. <3
I really didn't 'get' this show at first, it took a couple of episodes to see what they were trying to accomplish - and it was hilarious, provocative, poignant and in your face *all the time.* I loved the romance between James McAvoy and Anne-Marie Duff's characters and how chaotic everything was around them. Not how I want to live, but this show is absolutely based in reality, please know that some British (worldwide?) families do live like this, they're getting by the best way they know how and that's all there is to it.
They were so loveable, I couldn't help but enjoy the show and looked forward to every episode. I knew people who had grown up in similar circumstances and I think that's why it hit such a nerve in the UK, people could either see themselves being represented (for the first time on tv for an entire show) or were stunned that 'people actually lived like this.' I liked the former, disliked the latter group. The outrage amongst the newspapers was something to behold - how dare a show 'glamorise' this lifestyle. Well, sorry, but this is how some people live, no point in being an ostrich. Such an important show.
Yay! Veep is returning, April 2016, this Monday. I'm still on an earlier season, binge watch time!!!!! Such a funny show.
The UK version is very touching and poignant, I look forward to seeing this, as well.
I know it's oustanding, the attention to detail is unmatched in a modern day show set in the '50s, '60s but when there isn't one single character I like or can even identify with then I just don't want to know. Everyone I know loves it, it's just not for me.
Back in the days when there were just 3 networks to watch and J.R, etc had us all both captivated and appalled. It was ridiculous but still, we watched. :)
Like her or loathe her, you had to respect the he** out of Jane Tennyson, she gave everything to the job and Helen Mirren had a tough time in the press as they didn't like, at that time, a strong female lead - like most of Tennyson's colleagues. I remember thinking that I just didn't know how she managed to put up with all the misogyny but for her it was about the work, helping people, not holding hands but solving murders and putting people away for them. Amazing character actors throughout all seasons. Running for 7 seasons itself tells you how good it was. A true before-its-time show.
Truly groundbreaking at the time it was shown in the UK. I loved this show, being let into a lifestyle in Manchester that I knew little about was exhilirating and must-watch-tv. Everyone watched it, everyone, the plots and writing were excellent and, for me, the cast was outstanding. LOVED this show! Didn't understand the double entendre in the title until years later.... :)
Dana Delaney with her neverending smug attitude and stupid designer handbags that she places in the middle of EVERY crime scene made this one of the most unintentionally hilarious - so bad you have to see it for yourself - shows. Even bringing in the swoony Mark Valley towards the end couldn't save this train wreck. I am surprised it lasted so long.
Am tracking it but not watching yet as I don't want to spoil the books it's based on. Silly but true. Once I've finished them it'll be time to binge watch! Get that popcorn ready! :)
I loved this show so much, but with all the twists and turns Olivia has been put through, this is the one Shonda Rhimes show where, in the great scheme of things, a particular man always wins. I hate that, I want Olivia to win, 100% of the time. I'm still watching, hoping Olivia will win...
Please, someone put us out of our misery and cancel this show, we've had everything but the kitchen sink flung into the plot and now it's just a caricature of what it once was. I can't believe I used to adore this show and waited eagerly for it every single week.
