The whispers is interesting, and it's certainly not bad -- but it's been four episodes and so far no questions have been answered, rather, we've only received more questions. That being said, the mystery is a bit more aggressive than Under The Dome, where the dome just sits there doing nothing the whole season -- so The Whispers is quicker paced. The cast is good, we've got Heroes' Milo Ventimiglia and a super cutie, Cabin in the Woods' Kristen Connelly. It's far from the best show on TV, but I think its a lot more interesting than Resurrection, The Returned, The Leftovers, Under The Dome and all that crap. Will it be canceled or renewed? I predict at least 1 renewal, and I can't state further than that. It's not bad. Check it out. Don't expect too much.
The pilot is sort of slow, but asks interesting questions. It isn't until the last 5 seconds, with a huge twist that things start to get really interesting. I don't necessarily agree with putting the most interesting thing in the pilot in the last 5 seconds, but after having seen the second episode I can proudly say that Dark Matter is going to be awesome.
It is sort of similar to Firefly, drawing on the space opera and heavy character development paradigms. It's hard to describe what makes it different without spoilers, but take my word for it that this team is quite different from the firefly crew, as well as their goals. It's an action packed show, with a good cast, great set design, and a whole lot of fun.
Hit or Miss
The Odd Couple is pretty inconsistent in the level of laughs it brings. I suspect this is because of multiple writers.
Sometimes its very funny, other times its not so much.
The characters are all funny people, which is key in a comedy in my opinion. This makes the Odd Couple slightly less situational humor and more standard. That being said, it is still a sitcom as you can infer from the premise.
I've always liked Matthew Perry -- he always plays the same character. The straight man with sarcastic witty comebacks and great side-eye stares. He returns with that archtype and is forced to live with a hypochondriac neat-freak who pushes his absurdities to the extreme. As with the original series, it makes for some truly funny scenarios but the show is only as good as its writers and I feel like some of them are better than others.
Worth watching if its on. Not worth going out of your way to watch. Try One Big Happy instead.
While not terribly original, Backstrom boasts a strong premise with a promising lead character in terms of personality and ability. Unfortunately in the pilot episode, neither come across. Detective Everett Backstrom (Rainn Wilson) is meant to be completely tactless, sardonid and weird -- yet get away with saying whatever he wants to whomever he wants because of his unique ability to put himself in the minds of the victim and killer alike. In actuality, he just comes across as a lazy jackass who just happened to get lucky enough to have the evidence lead right to the killer. I felt that the dialogue wasn't polished and his character didn't properly display the intelligence and skill I suspect he was meant to. That being said, Backstrom wasn't awful and is far from the worst pilot I've seen. The rest of the cast seem like workable characters, especially the GORGEOUS Detective Gravely (Genevieve Angelson) whom I want to whisk away and marry :3
So grateful to netflix for picking up this series!
I'm really impressed. The first two seasons, Riders and Defenders of Berk respectively had vastly inferior animation. Race to the Edge boasts the same quality of animation as the How to Train your Dragon movies! So if you loved the first two seasons, the humor, the adventure, the character development and the adorable dragons -- then you'll really love this new season!!
The Mayor really surprised me. What a cute show! First off, it's got a great premise. Simple, not tremendously original, but it hasn't been done before in a 30 minute comedy capacity.
The cast are all extremely likable. The show feels sort of like a version of "Atlanta" that everyone can relate too. It's a feel-good show about an underdog who becomes the mayor, and you're pretty much smiling every step of the way. I have high expectations for this one based on the pilot.
When I first saw the preview for this show, I was really hoping it would be like APB ... exactly to "fill the void" Thar777 mentions. APB was an amazing show and I miss it dearly (especially Caitlin Stasey).
Alas, while Wisdom of the Crowd is a perfectly decent show, it's pretty much nothing like APB except for some minor premise similarities.
APB was fun, fast paced and intense with new gadgets of the week, and quirky characters.
Wisdom of The Crowd is a serious, depressing, dark drama about a tech genious whose daughter was murdered and he comes up with an idea of crowd-sourced investigation to help solve her murder. How much of the show will be dedicated to solving that one murder? How much will be a crime of the week? The Cast seems alright - I do like some of the actors in it, but it feels a whole lot more like CSI Cyber or Ransom than something really fun and original like APB or Intelligence. I'll maybe give Wisdom another few episodes before I make my decision to stick with it or not. I don't like dark cop dramas, and this one had sexual violence right in the first episode. Thats usually a good indication its not the show for me.
It's like they forgot it was a comedy. ... Couldn't even finish the first episode.
I haven't watched it yet, it's on My DVR, but my dad said it was like Da Vinci's Demons, without any of the cool stuff that we care about.
This review is based on the pilot of APB which aired 2/6/17.
Review is subject to change.
APB is a police procedural about the 13th district of Chicago which, after interesting circumstances is all but bought buy a tech billionaire who supplies the 13th with brand new technology to help catch the bag guys and settle a personal vendetta.
As a huge fan of Almost Human, Intelligence, and Minority Report, the premise for this series is seemed intriguing and made me excited for the show. However even going in with higher-than-most expectations, I still came away very pleasantly surprised. The pilot episode is truly wonderfully written. It doesn't feel like, "just another police procedural" at all. There was an original beginning, middle, and end with strong individual character development, and a clear direction. By the time we get to see all the cool technology, we already care about the stories of the characters. Its just a really well-written episode and I hope that latter episodes maintain this same level of detail.
Also worth noting that Caitlin Stasey from Reign has a major role. She's really gorgeous :D
