TV ratings: NCAA basketball dominates scripted television for Friday night

Fast National ratings for Friday, March 28, 2014With basketball narrowing down its winners on Friday night, the NCAA tournament handily won in ratings for CBS during all three hours of primetime. The sports coverage ended up with the top spot in both total viewers and in the adults 18-49 demo.Unfortunately for scripted television everywhere, the other winners of the night were news programs "Dateline: NBC" and "20/20," as well as a repeat of "Shark Tank" on ABC. "Last Man Standing" had the highest rating of any scripted programming, bringing in 6.2 million viewers at 8 p.m. on ABC. Only two other scripted programs broke the 2-million-viewer barrier for the night: "The Neighbors" (ABC, 4.0 million) and "Hannibal" (NBC, 3.6 million).Basketball naturally gave CBS the win for the night, with an average of 9.86 million viewers and a 5.7/10 share in households. NBC took second place with 6.6 million and a 4.5/8. ABC (5.7 million,... //

TV Ratings: Olympics dominate a repeat-filled Friday night

Fast National ratings for Friday, Feb. 21, 2014Continuing the trend, the 2014 Winter Olympics reigned supreme over all other programming Friday night. Everything else was a repeat, outside of new episodes of "Shark Tank" and "20/20" on ABC, but even they could hold a candle to one of the final days of the games.Even still, the Olympics were down a bit from Thursday. That didn't mean the other networks could pose much of a challenge though, as they were all dwarfed by NBC, which peaked at 15.6 million at 9 p.m. CBS' night of "Blue Bloods" reruns came in a distant second, with a peak audience of 6.8 million viewers at 10 p.m.Overall, NBC managed 14.5 million viewers with an 8.6 rating/7 share in households. They were followed by CBS with 6.1 million viewers (4.0/7), ABC's 5.4 million viewers (3.5/6), FOX with 2.3 million viewers (1.4/2) and The CW pulling up the rear with 968,000 viewers... //

TV Ratings: Olympics dominate repeats and Valentine's Day programs

Fast National ratings for Friday, Feb. 14, 2014It's no surprise that the 2014 Winter Olympics dominated television on Friday, Feb. 14. With almost all other networks showing repeats or Charlie Brown specials, there wasn't much chance of toppling the Winter Games. Even new episodes of "Enlisted" and "Raising Hope" on FOX didn't stand much of chance. The Olympics dipped somewhat in viewers between Thursday and Friday, even with the highly anticipated men's figure-skating finals. An average of 19.1 million viewers tuned in to the NBC primetime broadcast.Still, that number dwarfed the nearest competition, a repeat of "Hawaii Five-0" on CBS at 9 p.m. Dismal numbers for new programming were represented by "Enlisted" (1.8 million viewers), "Raising Hope" (1.5 million) and "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (0.86 million).Overall, NBC's 19.1 million viewers led to a 11.0 rating/19 share in households. CBS followed with 5.4 million viewers (3.5/6). ABC (4.3 million, 2.8/5), FOX (2.4 million, 1.5/3) and... //

TV ratings: ABC scores demo wins while CBS takes Friday

Fast National ratings for Friday, Jan. 17, 2014It was another solid Friday night for the usual suspects on ABC and CBS, with the triple whammy of "Undercover Boss," "Hawaii Five-0" and "Blue Bloods" snagging the night's most viewers, while ABC pulled wins in the 18-49 demographic with "Shark Tank" and "20/20." Unfortunately, the low debut for FOX's new comedy "Enlisted" wasn't a fluke, with 0.4 million viewers dropping out from premiere week -- which wouldn't actually that big of a drop if the number weren't so low in the first place. CBS won the night overall with an average 10.6 million viewers and a 6.6 rating/11 household share. ABC trailed behind with 6.3 million (4.2/7), while NBC nabbed 5.2 million (3.3/6), FOX got 4.5 million (2.7/5) and The CW trailed with 801,000 viewers and a 0.5/1.In the 18-49 demo, however, ABC pulled ahead with an average of 1.7 for the night, with CBS earning... //

TV ratings: 'Blue Bloods' dips, but still wins; 'I Love Lucy Christmas Special' shows strength

Fast national ratings for Friday, December 20, 2014While most networks were in full holiday rerun mode or airing holiday special, CBS' new episodes of "Hawaii Five-0" and "Blue Bloods," along with the special colorized version of the "I Love Lucy" Christmas special helped the network take Friday night. "Lucy" show particular strength, up about a million eyeballs from the usual 8 p.m. time slot occupant, "Undercover Boss," last week.CBS pulled in an average of 9.4 million viewers and a 5.9/10 household share to win the night. In ratings, viewership and the adults 18-49 demo, ABC placed No. 1 across the board. Even "20/20" beat out its competition, only narrowly surpassing a rerun of "Blue Bloods."
