TV ratings: Winter Olympics close on low note, Daytona 500 boosts FOX Sunday

Fast National ratings for Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014The 2014 Winter Olympics went out with a whimper in terms of ratings, as the closing ceremony from Sochi delivered some of NBC's lowest numbers of the past two-plus weeks. A preview of "Growing Up Fisher" that started at 10:36 p.m. ET looks as though it will come in more or less where "About a Boy" did on Saturday.Also Sunday, a long rain delay pushed the Daytona 500 into primetime on FOX and gave the network a ratings bump as a result. Opposite the two sports telecasts, "The Amazing Race" had its weakest premiere ever.NBC drew 13.5 million viewers and an 8.0 rating/13 share in households for the night. Fast National ratings for Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014NBC's prime-time Winter Olympics telecast Sunday drew some of its lowest ratings of these games, but on a night when it was almost the only original programming on the broadcast networks, the Peacock's margin of victory was as wide as it's been the past 10 days.NBC averaged 21.1 million viewers and a 12.0 rating/19 share in households for the night. CBS finished a very distant second with 4.2 million viewers and a 2.7/4. ABC (3.7 million, 2.2/4) came in third, and FOX (2 million, 1.1/2) trailed.NBC scored a 4.8 rating among adults 18-49. The network's coverage, including medal events in team figure skating, downhill skiing and snowboarding, is essentially even with the same night of competition in 2010 among adults 18-49 and off just a little bit in viewers.Also Sunday, CBS' special "The Beatles: The Night That Changed America" scored decent ratings, running ahead of the network's usual numbers for the night in viewers and adults 18-49. ABC and FOX stacked their nights with reruns.NBC delivered 25.4 million viewers and a 14.0 rating/21 share in households in primetime, more than doubling the 11.6 million viewers and 7.0/11 for CBS. Fast National ratings for Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013NFL games dominated the ratings Sunday night, with NBC's prime-time telecast drawing its usual solid numbers (though a blowout game drove it down a little vs. last week) and a late-afternoon game spilling into the evening giving CBS a big boost.Also Sunday, "The Simpsons'" annual "Treehouse of Horror" episode scored the best adults 18-49 rating of all the non-football programming for the night. "Once Upon a Time" was fairly steady for ABC, but "Revenge" and "Betrayal" both fell off from last week's premieres.CBS currently stands in the lead among total viewers with 15.2 million and a 9.3 rating/15 share in households, but those numbers will change with the late-afternoon NFL runover and a couple of affiliates airing another evening game. TV ratings: Miss America pageant up; 'Sunday Night Football' leads the night

Fast National ratings for Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013The 2014 Miss America pageant saw a big jump from the 2013 numbers -- an average of nearly 1.5 million more viewers over the previous year's ratings. It was the pageant's best numbers since 2004, which is, incidentally, the last time the pageant ran in September. ABC was still in third place, but the competition put up a strong showing against NFL football. NBC won the night on the back of the 49ers-Seahawks game on "Sunday Night Football" with an average of 15.9 million viewers and a 9.4 rating/15 share in households. CBS was second with nearly an hour of NFL runover into primetime, earning 10.3 million viewers and a 6.5/10. NBC ruled the night with its "Sunday Night Football" matchup featuring the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, and FOX got a boost from its late-afternoon games running into primetime.NBC's NFL coverage was down some in the fast nationals from its Sunday opener last year, but it was still far and away the night's top show.
