TV ratings: NBC wins Sunday with NFL preseason and 'Big Brother' rises for CBS

Fast National ratings for Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012An NFL exhibition game between the Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers gave NBC an easy ratings win Sunday night. "Big Brother," meanwhile, rebounded some for CBS without the Olympics as competition, and ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition" ended its summer run on an up note.NBC delivered 8.1 million viewers and a 5.2 rating/9 share in households in primetime, numbers that will likely rise when adjustments for the live NFL telecast are made. CBS (5.6 million, 3.7/6) came in second overall. ABC took third with 3.7 million viewers and a 2.3/4, finishing a little bit ahead of FOX (3 million, 1.7/3).The adults 18-49 title also went to NBC, which scored a 2.6 rating in the demographic. Fast National ratings for Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012The final night of the 2012 Olympics gave NBC one last night of huge ratings, closing out the London games with an audience of close to 27 million people.Elsewhere Sunday, ABC's reality lineup ticked up a little opposite the closing ceremony. "Big Brother," on the other hand, fell a bit for CBS.NBC averaged 26.9 million viewers and a 15.1 rating/26 share in households for the night, once again blowing away the other broadcast networks. CBS took the top non-Olympic spot with 4.7 million viewers and a 3.1/5. ABC (3.5 million, 2.2/4) came in third, and FOX (2.8 million, 1.6/3) trailed with an all-rerun lineup.The Peacock earned a 7.8 rating among adults 18-49 for its Olympic finale. FOX took second in the demographic with a 1.3, edging CBS' 1.2. ABC posted a 0.9.... //

But they still blew everything else away for the night.Elsewhere, ABC continued to struggle with original episodes of its reality shows opposite the Olympics, but CBS' "Big Brother" rebounded some after some down episodes last week.NBC scored 29.2 million viewers and a 16.5 rating/27 share in households for the night. CBS (4.6 million, 3.0/5) finished a very distant second. ABC (3.2 million, 1.9/3) came in third, and FOX (2.7 million, 1.6/3) trailed.The Olympics scored a 9.3 rating among adults 18-49 for NBC. "Big Brother" and "60 Minutes" were both below average, and "3" fell from its already weak premiere.NBC averaged 35.45 million viewers and a 19.5 rating/32 share in households for the night, up from 27.4 million for the primetime portion of Saturday's Olympics coverage. CBS (4 million, 2.6/4) was the best of the rest, followed by FOX (2.5 million, 1.5/3) and ABC (2.4 million, 1.6/3).NBC scored an 11.4 rating among adults 18-49 for the night, a significant bump from Saturday's 8.2. Elsewhere, the Teen Choice Awards on FOX fell overall from last year, but they did lead the night in the target audience of, you guessed it, teenagers.ABC averaged 7.9 million viewers and a 5.0 rating/9 share in households in primetime, easily topping second-place CBS' 5.2 million viewers and 3.4/6. NBC (3.6 million 2.4/4) came in third, and FOX (2.7 million, 1.6/3) trailed.ABC also scored a sizable win in the adults 18-49 demographic -- its 2.6 rating more than doubled the average for CBS (1.2). However, CBS' "60 Minutes" garnered the most viewers in the 7 p.m. hour.NBC finished with 8.28 million viewers (5.0/9) followed by CBS (5.24 million, 3.5/6), ABC (4.5 million, 2.7/5) and FOX (2.5 million, 1.5/3). It was a pretty quiet night all around on the broadcast networks, in fact, particularly in the adults 18-49 demographic. ABC's "Secret Millionaire" and "Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition" grabbed the top demo numbers for the night.CBS did lead Sunday in viewers, averaging 6.5 million and a 4.2 rating/7 share in households. NBC (5.3 million, 3.4/6) came in second, beating out ABC's 4.9 million viewers and 3.1/5. A night of reruns on FOX averaged 2.75 million viewers and a 1.6/3.ABC topped the 18-49 rankings, albeit with a scant 1.4 rating. The ABC premieres of "Secret Millionaire" and "Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss" opened to pretty soft numbers, but in terms of summer programming, they weren't bad.CBS still won the night with 5.98 million viewers and a 4.0 rating/7 share in households. NBC was close behind with 5.8 million and a 3.7/6, followed by ABC at 4.9 million and 3.1/5 and FOX at 2.8 million, 1.6/3.The adults 18-49 demo was a different matter, as CBS finished last with a 0.8.
