Accel World Episode #24 Anime Review

With so many episodes geared towards the fight against Nomi, it’s finally come down to that time where it has to just go all out. The two have orbited each other for some time, with Nomi holding the upper hand pretty constantly as he smacks them around and sets up various traps, but it’s reached the point where Haru has to go all the way. With the way Nomi beat down on everyone in the previous episode, it’s now all about hitting back. Haru’s growth has had him go up against some tough opponents along the way and each has naturally taugh him a lot more. Nomi’s been one of the toughest, but unfortunately one of the least interesting as well. READ MORE...

Accel World Episode #23 Anime Review

With things progressing just a little bit more for Haru as he works to figure out how to deal with Nomi, we were treated to some moments where you really wanted to just smack Haru in the last episode. As we said before, when a girl you like starts undressing in front of you shyly and gives you the look, don’t leave the room. Don’t leave the room. That was just a small part of things though but it continues to highlight the confusion that Haru has since there’s some pining in there for Kuroyuki and he’s struggling with what has to be done with Nomi. And he certainly doesn’t want to hurt Chiyuri but there’s also a feeling that he’s trying to avoid hurting himself as well. READ MORE...

Accel World Episode #22 Anime Review

With the exploration in the series getting a little comical, if obvious, as we get ll the people using animals and cute designs as their avatars, Accel World starts to feel a little more "real" in a way. While we’ve had some interesting designs, it’s hard to imagine that a good chunk of people that would be engaged in this world would just be doing the silly and fun stuff like this. Haru’s little piggie character has been cute from the start but he’s always been on the outside when it came to this, so having a whole bar full of unusual and interesting "cartoon" designed avatars is pretty welcome, even as the series works its relatively serious storyline into things. Accel World Episode #21 Anime Review

With the issue of Nomi sitting in the background, Haru and Taku are finding themselves in the odd position of figuring out what to do, especially with the way the rumors are flying about him that Nomi likely set up. Haru and Taku are in an interesting place in their relationship at this stage and I’m definitely enjoying the way the two of them have ended up working together so well and are as clear as they are with each other, whether in real speak or virtual speak. They do end up with an awkward moment or two though with how the discussion turns, such as on the bus near the beginning here where it looks like they’re having a lovers problem that could go physically violent. The girls all love watching that. READ MORE...

Accel World Episode #20 Anime Review

With the growth of the cast recently and the focus on Kuroyuki and the group she’s hooked up with, we got a good look at some other things going on in the Burst Link world. It’s been fun and a welcome change to let Kuroyuki shine for a bit on her own while expanding things a fair bit. With this episode, events shift its focus back on Haru and the crew he’s with as we’re dropped back into a pretty good fight as he and Cyan Pile are going up against Dusk Taker. The two men have worked well together so far and while they may not be an ideal team in some ways, they don’t step on each others toes and can focus on the larger goal at hand. READ MORE...

Accel World Episode #19 Anime Review

With Kuroyuki having hooked up with Ruka and Mana now and having then been introduced to the gent behind them with Crimson King, the show continues to move forward with Kuroyuki as a focal point. Something I definitely like, even if it’s her in her Burst Link mode with the armored unit. Seeing her and the other three working together at first to deal with a critter and the one controlling it is nicely done too since it gives us a big monster to fight and the introduction of another character, Sulfur Pot. He’s not exactly arrogant, but he’s confident in his position and skills to be able to push back against her even as she calls him out on some of his tricks that aren’t easy to discern. READ MORE...

Accel World Episode #18 Anime Review

While this stretch of episodes has definitely been a bit of a predictable lull, focusing more on Haru’s growth and getting him to realize his potential and expand it, it’s also been missing something important for many viewers. While Haru is a rather fun and engaging lead character simply because he’s not an obvious wallflower or someone who could be quite the popular guy if he had the confidence, a lot of people are drawn to Kuroyuki. She’s been a strong presence at the start and had a smattering after that while Haru leveled up. And then she took a bigger backseat to events, but now looks to get a bit of an episode of her own as she’s off on her class trip to the beach. READ MORE...

Accel World Episode #17 Anime Review

With the way the series has unfolded, we’re in that kind of awkward patch right now where Haru’s growth is key and we’re getting it, but it’s not exactly engaging. We know he’ll grow, we know the cast will grow a bit more with those that help him and we get some nice call backs to earlier characters. Things are on a set path but the larger picture feels weakened because of it in that you’re not sure, well, what the point of things are outside of Haru’s own growth. He is a fun character to watch though since he’s not like most others and that leaves him with some good quirks to take advantage of and some serious issues with how he views himself that he’s trying to conquer. Accel World Episode #16 Anime Review

With Haru having lost his wings and coming across an amusing character from the start of the series with Ash making a helpful appearance, Accel Saga is now in a curious place where it has the potential for some good dialogue and a bit of an info dump. Bringing Haru into contact with Sky Raker, the person who came closest to being able to fly like he does, gives him hope that he’ll find the right path back to getting them. But what becomes amusing about it is that she says plainly that when someone’s avatar like his loses something important like that, there’s a reason for it. READ MORE...

Accel World Episode #15 Anime Review

With Haru having had to deal with the very arrogant and abrasive Nomi, things have shifted to the Accel World itself where it can only really reach its proper climax. The two certainly have a different approach to how they do things, especially with Nomi being pretty calculating and cold while wrapping it in that condescending tone, and Haru’s emotions are things that really define him in a similar way. Pitting the two against each other certainly makes a lot of sense and provides for some good moments, both in the real world and here sa they battle each other. READ MORE...
