Breaking Pointe's Allison DeBona Defends Ballet West and Hypes Season 2 — Exclusive

After online critics took a stab at the CW show Breaking Pointe for showing more behind-the-scenes drama than dancing, one of the show's stars took to Facebook to defend her decision to become part of the show that shows the struggles of dancers at Ballet West in Salt Lake City. "We have received such harsh criticism from all facets, dancers and non-dancers alike because of Breaking Pointe and how it has given ballet a 'bad name,'" writes Allison DeBona. "Well, at least we have a name now. A... //feeds.wetpaint.com/~r/wetpaint/latest/excerpt/~3/d_reHdQLJ8c/2013-08-19-breaking-pointes-allison-debona-defends

'Breaking Pointe': Ballet style 'can be whatever you need it to be'

The love for ballet usually starts early. Children either love the rhythms of dance class or they fall under the spell of a performance, where the costumes are as enticing as the dancers.Onstage, dancers appear magical: ballerinas in costumes that make them look as if they could float as they glide about on their toes, men who stay suspended as they leap into the air. Everyone seems to defy gravity. Those children who fall in love with ballet yearn to someday wear the costumes that look as if they came from fairy tales.David Heuvel, costume designer for Ballet West, the dance company featured on The CW's Monday series "Breaking Pointe," has been designing such costumes for years. The costume "can be whatever you need it to be as long it moves and breathes with the body," he tells Zap2it."I believe if a dancer is comfortable and loves the costume and appreciates the costume, that is 95 percent... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/08/breaking-pointe-ballet-style-can-be-whatever-you-need-it-to-be.html

'Breaking Pointe': Allison DeBona brings up 'the gay thing'

Football and hockey players have deserved macho reputations, but for pure grit, try being a ballet dancer.Mock if you must, but The CW's "Breaking Pointe," now in its second season on Mondays, proves how much athleticism and determination it takes. The reality show follows Ballet West, a nationally celebrated company in Salt Lake City. As the announcer says, the dancers "train more hours than Olympic athletes and suffer shocking injuries."Like most reality shows, this squanders time on the inflamed drama of relationships, gossip and sniping. It's so much better when it concentrates on the dancers working.Artistic Director Adam Sklute tells Zap2it he hopes the show reveals "how complicated and challenging our lives are, and they have a greater respect for what dancers go through, the trials and tribulations of our lives. I like breaking down that wall."The mistake we make is we spend all of our lives trying to make everything look effortless," Sklute continues. "I... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/07/breaking-pointe-allison-debona-brings-up-the-gay-thing.html

'Breaking Pointe's' Allison DeBona opens up about her big decision to give up dancing ... or love

Ballet dancer Allison DeBona has a big decision to make on Season 2 of "Breaking Pointe," The CW's ballet reality show. The demi soloist at Ballet West recently re-started a relationship with her boyfriend before Rex Tilton, Jonathan, but with him comes the decision to give up ballet ... or love.Zap2it got the chance to dive deep into DeBona's predicament, as well as chat about her friendship with ex-boyfriend Tilton, Season 2's production, "Cinderella," and the shocking casting choices the choreographer will make when it comes to the lead roles.Zap2it: After your tumultuous relationship with Rex last season, how was it coming back to work with him?Debona: It was actually fine. TV ratings: 'Under the Dome' and 'The Bachelorette' rise Monday but 'Breaking Pointe' struggles

Fast National ratings for Monday, July 22, 2013Monday was a pretty decent night for the broadcast networks, as several shows improved on their ratings from last week. "Under the Dome" was once again the night's top show, improving in both viewers and adults 18-49 for the second straight week."The Bachelorette" also ticked up with its "Men Tell All" episode, and ABC's "Mistresses" was also up. So were "American Ninja Warrior" and "Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls" for NBC. The good news didn't extend to the premiere of The CW's "Breaking Pointe," however -- it was down significantly from its debut a year ago. NBC's news special on the birth of the royal baby also didn't do much business.CBS brought in 6.8 million viewers and a 4.4 rating/7 share in households for the night. ABC (5.7 million, 4.0/6) came in second, a good ways ahead of NBC (4 million, 2.5/4). FOX came in fourth with... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/07/tv-ratings-under-the-dome-and-the-bachelorette-rise-monday-but-breaking-pointe-struggles.html

Breaking Pointe Season 2 Preview: Ballet West Returns!

My guilty little pleasure last summer was The CW's Breaking Pointe. The reality series focused on the students and teachers of the Salt Lake City based ballet company Ballet West. It was an honest behind the scenes look at the highly competitive ballet world, focusing on both veteran and freshman dancers with the company and the amount of dedication it seems to take to make it in that world.
