The story of the Polish resistance and its 63-day battle against the Nazis in 1944, following the successful Allied landings at Normandy, is related via interviews and rarely seen footage shot by the underground army. Believing that they would only have to fight a few days before the Allies arrived, resistance fighters rose up against the Nazis with homemade weapons. Help never arrived, however, and the battle ended with 200,000 Poles dead; and a half million more people forced to flee Warsaw. David Ensor reports.
