'Community' Behind the Scenes: Meet the Show's Makeup, Prop & Costume Pros (VIDEO)

'Community' has done some pretty epic things in its two seasons on the air. I mean, just look at this cast: But none of it would be possible without the people behind the scenes: the makeup artists who lovingly applied Yvette Nicole Brown's beard for the 'Pulp Fiction' homage; the props person who meticulously crafted the claymation figures, like Gillian Jacobs' Britta Bot, for the Christmas episode; and the imaginative costumers who turn Jim Rash into Dean Pelton, the spectacle, week after week. Not only do these people have the vision to bring the scripts to life, they also have stories. Lots and lots of good stories. //

'Cougar Town'-'Community' lovefest will continue this season

It's not often that you hear a TV show character tout a show on a different network. It's happened several times this season on ABC's "Cougar Town" and NBC's "Community," though, and at least one more expression of cross-network love is coming."Cougar Town" co-creator Bill Lawrence tells Zap2it that his show's season finale contains a "solid 'Community' shout-out," presumably coming from Travis (Dan Byrd), who has expressed his love for the series in the past."We've kind of been cross-promoting each other since the beginning of the year. They have Abed [Danny Pudi] liking 'Cougar Town,' and we have Travis loving 'Community,'" Lawrence says. "I don't know if anyone's done that sort of cross-promotion between two shows on different networks before." (Lawrence's previous series, "Scrubs," name-checked several of its contemporaries, from "House" to "Gilmore Girls," but it was more of a one-way love affair.)Lawrence is genuinely a fan of "Community" -- "I loved it," he says... //

Community 2.20 "Competitive Wine Tasting" Review

I’ll just go ahead and put this out there: "Competitive Wine Tasting" is probably my least favorite episode of Community ‘s second season and quite possibly my least favorite episode OF ALL TIME. Of course, it’s still better than a lot of television out there and if I were giving it a grade, it would still get a B-, but this ultimately fails because it has too many good ideas that it doesn’t really do anything with. In short, this episode is overstuffed, but undercooked. While I often enjoy it when the cast of characters is separated into their own fun stories, I much prefer the version of the series where the whole group gets together to do something, or at least swirls around the outside of one major event. "Wine Tasting" has just a bit of that, but only insomuch that it requires all the characters to be in a room for a few riffs and reaction shots.  Read More...   //

'Community' Photo From This Week's 'Competitive Wine Tasting'

Evil, evil Pierce Hawthorne ... Chevy Chase has had quite the season of tear-inducing manipulation, but what's he up to this week on 'Community'? Plotting? Scheming? Laughing maniacally to the tune of an ominous new personal theme song? Hardly. In an exclusive photo from this week's all-new 'Community,' Pierce appears to be ditching his tough exterior and actually taking some sound advice. But what the advice is about and who's doling it out may shock you. Keep reading to see the full picture and to hear more details about this week's episode, 'Competitive Wine Tasting' ... //

'Community' first look: Ooh, child, Shirley goes into labor

Ooh, child, is right. We already know NBC's "Community" is taking Shirley's pregnancy to its joyful or bitter (depending on who the father is) end. Shirley will be going into labor in the April 28 episode titled, "Applied Anthropology."And Zap2it has the exclusive first look at Shirley (played by Yvette Nicole Brown) going into labor above. That may be the last thing the crew needs that week as the school year winds down and their anthropology final looms. Shirley notices a slight pain, which quickly escalates into full-blown labor. Of course, the crew waste precious time arguing about how best to help and everyone is anxious to find out who the baby daddy is.When we were on the "Community" set, we had a chance to grill Brown on her character's impending labor pains and what it was like to play preggers. What can we expect for the big conclusion to Shirley's pregnancy? We won't find out until she gives... //

TV ratings: 'American Idol' results up, lead Thursday by a lot

Fast National ratings for Thursday, March 24, 2011The wild and wacky "American Idol" results show Thursday was up a good amount from last week, carrying FOX to an easy ratings win for the night. Coverage of the NCAA tournament was also up significantly over last year -- but because it was split between CBS and TBS, the Eye's numbers were down compared to the 2010 Sweet 16 round. Thanks to "Idol," FOX led Thursday by a wide margin, averaging 14.8 million viewers and an 8.6 rating/14 share in households. ABC (8.5 million, 5.4/9) came in second. CBS' 7.15 million viewers and 4.6/8 took third (those numbers may change some because of its live NCAA coverage). NBC (4.7 million, 2.9/5) was up some with a new episode of "The Office." The CW trailed with 1.4 million viewers and a 0.9/1.FOX also scored the top spot among adults 18-49 with a 4.4 rating. ABC finished second in the... //

Will 'Community' Go Back ... to the Future? Star Donald Glover Hopes So (VIDEO)

When you're starring in a hit TV show that loves to spoof pop culture, regularly employs unbelievable storylines and literally has no rules, the idea of a "dream episode" could certainly become a reality. I'm hoping that's the case with Donald Glover's ultimate 'Community' episode. Imagine Chevy Chase as a crazy old doctor, obsessed with time travel; Alison Brie as a hot teen of the 1980s, complete with faded denim jacket; and Joel McHale as a beefed-up bully in the 1950s. Then let your jaws drop as Donald Glover zooms by on his hoverboard, collar popped, jamming to some Huey Lewis. Yes, I'm asking you to imagine a time, with or without the help of a DeLorean, when we might be lucky enough to see a 'Back to the Future' episode of 'Community.' //
