Exotic locations can only do so much, unfortunately they are unable to cover a multitude of sins in Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. There’s the blatant Xenophobia of the entire premise to start with, no to mention cultural stereotypes and cheesy script writing on top of sub standard acting and a lack of chemistry between the leads.

The characters themselves are very basic police procedural stereotypes: the leader who’s a sharpshooter but prefers peaceful discussion; the cultural expert/encyclopaedia of all knowledge with an emotional back story; the muscle of the team who has a large family; the rookie who’s also incredibly sassy but secretly wants to be accepted onto the team. If the actors gave amazing performances then I’m sure that even these basic charterers could be interesting, sadly they’re verging on robotic at times and ruthless at others.

The best parts of the show are the random cameos from beloved Criminal Minds characters (only reminding you how characterisation should be done) and Monty, the technical analyst and only character with a hint of personality on the show.

However, even after all my negativity, the CM addict in me is still tuning in for episodes. Who knows, maybe the series will be a slow burner but until then the 2.5 star rating stays!

EDIT: Season 2 is no better, if anything the cultural insensitivity is worse, reducing to a 2 star rating...

I love Criminal Minds and I was very disappointed with the first spin-off they tried (Suspect Behavior). I liked this new team right off the bat. The story was very interesting and I was hooked half-way through the first episode.

As a fan of Criminal Minds, I think that this spin-off really falls short and I am quite disappointed. I'm surprised that it was renewed for a second season after the negative reviews from critics during Season 1.

It had tons of potential with diverse storylines focusing on crimes in countries around the world, but I struggled to connect with many of episodes and don't find them as well-delivered as those in the original show. I loved Gary Sinise in CSI: NY, but he failed to impress in Beyond Borders as the leader of the team (dare I say, he was pretty boring). It's such a shame as Criminal Minds already had one failed spin-off, and I'm sad to say that this one also met the same fate recently.

Anything with Lt.DAN , is usually palatable , this being the case here too ! Never as good as its mother series , but its been a long run for Criminal Minds great cast and this will get better with time....I am 99% sure !

Wait they thought they needed to make another one? As if Criminal Minds had not totally overstayed its welcome. This is literally CSI meets Criminal Minds, as actors from both shows collaborate on this new creation. In a typical American superior way, the series highlights the underdeveloped nature of other countries compared with the vast superiorirty of the US police /FBI forces. And of course they have a jet.

I never cared much for Sinese...he seems to be looking to put himself in danger or be the hero at every opportunity. The rest of the cast is competent, but the formula of dangerous overseas tourists getting in trouble is going to get very old very fast...and cannot be good for tourism in any circumstance.

I gave this series a try. I love Gary Sinise and the premise is interesting. But a scene in the first episode was so poorly done, I had to look away. The two main characters were riding in a car with scenery going by in the background. I've seen better production on "Ellen". Sorry, I looked away and won't look back.
