Doogie Howser, M.D. Reviews & Ratings

Doogie Howser showed the coming of age of a teenage genius who was a board-certified surgeon by the time he was 16. At that tender age, Doogie (a childhood nickname for "Douglas") has to balance life with his parents and contemporaries and the demands of a career that's stressful even for adults. He has help and support from understanding parents Katherine and David Howser, the latter also...

This was a good show despite the absurd notion of a sixteen year old doctor, and the name. Neil Patrick Harris has talent and makes the show, so I would say it is worth watching.

A young Neil Patrick Harris. Great talent was already showing at such a young age.

I first watched this show over 20 years after it ended, I wanted to see what else Neil Patrick Harris was in before his How I Met Your Mother days - and I'm so glad that I did.
Doogie Howser, M.D follows the life of Doogie, a child genius who at age 14 is the youngest practicing Doctor in the country (and I'm guessing the world). Doogie seeks acceptance by both others his own age and his older colleagues. Each episode ends with Doogie making an entry in his computerised journal, making observations about what he has dealt with in each episode and what he has learned.
I still enjoyed it over 20 years later and think its definitely worth watching.

Neil Patrick Harris grew up in front of us and somehow managed to avoid the child actor curse. Loved this show and love Neil.

Dr. Douglas "Doogie" Howser possesses a genius intellect and an eidetic memory, Howser participates in a longitudinal study of child prodigies until his 18th birthday. He earned a perfect score on the SAT at the age of six, completed high school in nine weeks at the age of nine, graduated from Princeton University in 1983 at age 10, and finished medical school four years later. At age 14, Howser was the youngest licensed doctor in the country.

His best friend and neighbor, Vinnie Delpino (Max Casella), is a more typical teenager—climbing through Howser's bedroom window to visit—and connects him to life outside of medicine. Howser has kept a diary on his computer since 1979; episodes typically end with him making an entry in it, making observations about the situations he had experienced or learned in the episode.
