Review of Dragnet

60 minutes

"The story you are about to see is true", "Just the facts, ma'am", "We were working the day watch" - phrases which became so popular as to inspire much parody - set the realistic tone of this early police drama. The show emphasized careful police work and the interweaving of policemen's professional and personal lives.

1967-1970 Revival of the 1951–59 original

The series gave us a feel for the danger and heroism of police work. Dragnet earned praise for improving the public opinion of police officers.

After Jack Webb died there were 2 more incarnations:
1989 The New Dragnet
2003 L.A. Dragnet

The LA Police Depart retired Jack Webb's Sargent Joe Friday's badge number 714. Los Angeles city offices lowered their flags to half staff. And the LAPD provided an honor guard at his funeral.

It was an amazing show and I hope you catch it on METV.
