Duck Dynasty Producers File $100 Million Extortion Countersuit Against ITV

Duck Dynasty producersScott and Deirdre Gurney have filed a countersuit against ITV Studios after beingousted from their namesake company, TheWrap has learned. The producers claim the studio used launched and outrageous campaign of intimidation and extortion in order to lower the cost of Gurney Productions, of which ITV acquired a majority stake in 2012. Filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, the lawsuit is seeking $100 million in damages. The Robertson family has brought 11 seasons of fun filled reality show episodes to A&E viewers. Who wouldn’t want to watch a show about guys with ZZ Top style beards and their spouses deliver home truths and sorting out family problems while they manufacture duck hunting kazoos? Days after the Gurneys, producers on the A&E reality series Duck Dynasty, were sacked from ITV America and sued for fraud by the company, an attorney for the couple said that the producers will mount a countersuit. This is a blatant, desperate attempt at intimidation by ITV, a classic greedy corporate grab, solely for the purpose of enriching one shareholder at the expense of the founders who built this company into the highly valued, sustained financial success story that it is, the couples attorney, Michael E. Weinsten, said. The claims against the Gurneys are completely baseless and fraught with contradictions, inconsistencies and outright falsehoods. The producers of the reality hit Duck Dynasty have been fired and sued for fraud by the company that bought their production shingle four years ago. ITV America said Friday it had sacked Scott and Deirdre Gurney, veteran reality producers whose Duck Dynasty became one of the biggest reality hits on cable TV. The company also said it was suing the husband and wife team for fraud and breach of contract following an audit that, according to ITV, determined the couple was secretly operating another production company that competed with Gurney Productions, which ITV purchased in 2012. ...Read More... //
