Review of Empire

Wednesdays, 8:00 PM ET on FOX

60 minutes

Empire is described as a unique family drama set in the world of a hip-hop empire. It centers on Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard), a charismatic, savvy music superstar who is about to take his company, Empire Entertainment, public. Raised on the streets, he has never backed away from a fight and will resort to any measures, fair or foul, to defend his beloved Empire.

This family is like the old show 'Dallas' with Lucious as JR the guy you love to hate and then hate some more. The Lyon clan or rather the Lyon parents, Cookie and Lucious, give new meaning to the word dysfunction. It is feral the way that they bite each other and tear each other down. Empire has a great cast, who are all multitalented, especially musically. It manages to have ironic humor whilst being realistic and gritty. Great depiction of the lifestyle of a music mogul from the hood. If you like shows full of drama and great cliffhangers then this show is for you.
