TV ratings: 'Sunday Night Football' up over last week, 'Pan Am' and 'Housewives' down

Fast National ratings for Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011The defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers helped NBC's "Sunday Night Football" improve on its ratings from last week, and the Peacock once again finished the night on top. Football also inflated CBS' ratings some, while ABC's dramas "Desperate Housewives" and "Pan Am" declined.NBC averaged 16.2 million viewers and a 10.2 rating/16 share in households Sunday night, beating CBS' 12.1 million and 7.9/12. The numbers for both networks will change some because of the live NFL broadcasts in primetime. ABC came in third with 7.2 million viewers and a 4.7/7. FOX (2.7 million, 1.6/2) was way behind with a slate of reruns after a scheduled American League Championship Series game was rained out.NBC dominated the adults 18-49 demographic with a 6.3 rating. CBS finished second with a 3.1, followed by ABC at 2.0. Search for a Bone Marrow Donor on 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' (VIDEO)

On this week's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' (Sun., 8PM ET on ABC) Ty Pennington and his crew were pulling double duty. Not only were they building a new home for the Gomez family, they were also looking for a suitable bone marrow donor to give new life to son Jonah, who suffers from a rare blood disorder. Before a soccer match in Pasadena, Calif. Pennington asked the crowd -- and viewers at home -- to step up and register as bone marrow donors. As mom Jessica looked on in tears it was revealed that Major League Soccer was mounting registration drives at games all across the country at the same time to try to find a match for Jonah. TV Ratings: NBC's Steelers/Colts game wins; 'Pan Am' debuts strong

Fast National ratings for Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011.Yet again, NBC's Sunday night NFL match-up -- the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Indianapolis Colts -- surpassed the rest of the prime-time line-up to win the Sunday night ratings war. The Steelers' last-minute win in a close game surely helped to goose viewership. FOX -- with the return of their animation domination Sundays -- and ABC -- with the debut of the retro-drama "Pan Am" -- managed respectable numbers. But if football wasn't part of the equation, CBS -- with a strong "60 Minutes," "Amazing Race," "Good Wife" and "CSI: Miami" line-up -- would have won the night.NBC led the night with 14.9 million viewers and a 8.9 rating/14 share in households. CBS followed with 10.9 million (6.9/11). Next up, FOX with 9.5 million (5.5/8). Michelle Obama  found an unusual ally -- reality TV -- in her effort to bring attention to the needs of military families. The first lady, appearing Sunday on the two-part season premiere of ABC's  Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,  airing Sunday night, told the Associated Press that the show was the right platform for the cause. TV Ratings: NBC's NFL match-up eclipses the Emmys

The 63rd annual Emmy broadcast may have been a hit with the 10 million viewers who tuned in for all or part of the show, but the TV love-fest was utterly crushed by NBC's Sunday night football matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons. In Emmy's defense, the game was of particular interest because it marked quarterback Michael Vick's return to his old home town for the first time since he was fired by the Falcons in the wake of that whole dog-fighting scandal.The Eagles/Falcons game drew 17.8 million viewers with a 10.9 rating/17 share for the night. FOX's Emmy broadcast trailed way behind with 10.3 million viewers (6.4/10). We should also point out that Emmy's numbers were down from last year, too -- when the broadcast drew 13.5 million viewers. Sunday evening's watching was totally dominated by NBC's "Football Night in America" match-up between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Jets.NBC averaged 19 million viewers and an 11.4 rating, 18 share in primetime households, more than double the totals logged by every other network. CBS (9.3 million, 5.9/9) was a distant second with a night of 9/11 memorial programming. 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' to Build Seven New Houses in Joplin, Missouri

The town of Joplin, Missouri hit the headlines back in May after it was ravaged by a huge tornado that killed over 150 people and destroyed an estimated 2,000 buildings. Now, Joplin's hitting the headlines again as 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' has announced it intends to build new homes for some of the families who lost theirs in the devastation. In what producers say is one of the largest projects ever undertaken by the reality show, 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' aims to build seven houses in seven days. According to 'The Joplin Globe,' producer Jeff Cruz said "It's a lofty goal, but that's what we're going for. It can happen. It's going to happen.
