F Troop Reviews & Ratings

30 minutes

A frontier farce about goofy cavalrymen (and Indians with such names as Roaring Chicken) at Fort Courage sometime after the Civil War. It's filled with pratfalls, schemes and inside jokes, none of which makes much sense but is frequently hilarious.

I know it's all silly, but I really loved this crazy show.

F Troop is set at Fort Courage, a fictional US Army outpost in the Old West, from the end of the American Civil War in 1865 to at least 1867. There's a town of the same name adjacent to the fort. Fort Courage was named for the fictitious General Sam Courage (portrayed by Cliff Arquette)

The commanding officer is the gallant and laughably clumsy Captain Wilton Parmenter (Ken Berry, great at physical comedy), descended from a long line of distinguished military officers.

Parmenter struggles to exert his authority. Bashful, he tries to escape the matrimonial plans of his girlfriend, shopkeeper and postmistress Jane Angelica Thrift, known locally as "Wrangler Jane" (Melody Patterson). She's persistent!

Sergeant Morgan O'Rourke (Forrest Tucker) and Corporal Randolph Agarn (Larry Storch) of "O'Rourke Enterprises", which gets much of its funding by the rations and pay drawn for 30 men at Fort Courage, even though there are only 17 (the other 13, according to O'Rourke, are Indian scouts who only come to the fort at night and leave before dawn).
