'Face Off' fan recap: Live long and prosper

This week’s Face Off begins with a foundation challenge. Each contestant chooses a painted landscape to serve as inspiration for a retro alien, like the ones found in science-fiction shows of the 1960s and 1970s. Their guest judge is none other than Michael Westmore, who worked on the Star Trek franchise for 18 years. He chooses Evan as the winner. He had a head-to-toe makeup that was camera-ready, giving Evan immunity for the spotlight challenge. READ MORE...

'Face Off' fan recap: Closed-door policy

It’s time for Face Off‘s first foundation challenge of the season. Each contestant is given a Rorschach ink blot. They have to create an original character based on what they see. Emmy-winning designer Eryn Krueger Mekash serves as guest judge. Meg creates a river mermaid and uses sponges to create a crest coming from the forehead. Eryn chooses her creation as the top look, and Meg wins a badly needed immunity for the next challenge. READ MORE...

'Face Off' fan recap: Monster mashups

Eliminations were left up in the air after last week’s 100th episode, but now the party is over. Jason, Missy, Nora, and Meg were our bottom looks, and after deliberation, Missy was sent home for her paint job and poor anatomy. Now that we have that unpleasantness out of the way, let’s move on to this week’s truly fantastic challenge. READ MORE...

'Face Off' fan recap: The 100th episode

It’s the 100th episode of Face Off! Syfy’s underappreciated competition show has given us nine seasons, 120 artists, 1,157 makeups, and now, seven weddings. This season’s contestants meet McKenzie in the Pasadena Mausoleum, where she tells them about the monumental episode and their matrimonial challenge. READ MORE...

'Face Off' fan recap: Under the sea

The Face Off contestants set sail on the USCGC George Cobb for this week’s challenge, celebrating the United States Coast Guard’s 225th anniversary. No one was sent home during last week’s premiere, so to make up for it, TWO people will be sent home in week two. The Challenge Teams of two will create beautiful and deadly sirens, creatures from Greek mythology known for luring sailors to watery graves. Each team chooses a similarly beautiful and deadly sea creature to serve as inspiration. READ MORE...

And we’re back! Face Off begins season nine fresh off of its Critics’ Choice Award win for best reality competition series. And this season, the contestants are hitting the ground running. Face Off' season 8 finale fan recap

It’s the Face Off finale! It’s finally time to crown this season’s champion and their winning coach. As a reminder, the winner of this season will receive a VIP trip to one of Kryolan’s international locations, a new car, and $100,000 (and bragging rights of course). Since the beginning of the season, we’ve whittled it down to just two coaches (Laura for the ladies and Rayce for our gentlemen) and three finalists: Emily, Darla, and Logan. So before we announce the winner, let’s recap! READ MORE...

'Face Off' finale recap: And the winner is ...

It’s finally here—the season 7 finale of Face Off! Overall, it hasn’t been one of my favorite seasons. It has featured some of my favorite contestants, but there weren’t many makeups that I’ll remember (besides the clown challenge creations that will haunt my nightmares forever). Regardless, it’s been great to see our finalists grow throughout the season. Now, before we announce the winner, let’s recap! After last week’s elimination, McKenzie throws the finalists straight into their final challenge. We are ending the season the same way we began—with life and death. For the finale, the contestants will be creating two fantasy knights: a heroic "life" knight and a villainous "death" knight. READ MORE...

'Face Off' recap: Monster mash

Can you believe it? It’s already the penultimate episode of Face Off this season. It’s our contestants’ last chance to earn a place in the finale. Our almost-finalists are walking through the sets at DC Stages when they come to a courtroom set with a newsstand full of sensational headlines. Host McKenzie Westmore explains that this week’s challenge is inspired by two infamous movie monsters responsible for destroying iconic skylines—Godzilla and King Kong. So the contestants will use the headline and imagery from a newspaper as inspiration to create their own giant monsters. READ MORE...

'Face Off' recap: Element of disaster

The fewer contestants on Face Off, the more time we spend at their giant house. We get to see the final five contestants—or top five according to Drew’s half-glass-full mentality—ruminate on their chances in the upcoming finale. But enough chit-chat, it’s time for a spotlight challenge. The remaining contestants meet McKenzie at Universal Studios on the set of War of the Worlds, amongst a wrecked plane and the surrounding disaster site. Fairies are often connected to one of the four elements, so for this week’s challenge, they will be creating a beautiful fairy born from the site of one of Mother Nature’s disasters. The contestants choose the following events: READ MORE...
