The quality of this show is impressive. It has that feeling of a series that could last several years because every main character (and even some of the supporting characters) are so multifaceted that there are so many layers and layers of the character to peel back.

So far the character development has been great and I'm we're only four episodes in. I wasn't expecting to be so drawn in to this show given that I waw never a fan of gangster shows (the Sopranos is still on my watchlist, yes I know it's excellent, but it's not my favourite genre). There are so many seasoned excellent actors on this show that I suppose it was inevitable that I'd love it, Giancarlo Esposito is one of my favourites since Breaking Bad (and I find it a hilarious coincidence that he's of both Italian and African American descent given that mafia rivals in the show hating each other for several reasons, including their ethnicity). And of course Forest Whitaker and Vincent D'Onofrio are excellent actors and the main characters in the series.

This show is definitely worth your time, even if like me, crime and mafia stories aren't your typical genre of preference.

Godfather of Harlem is one my favorite cable shows. The other one is Homeland. Forest Whitaker plays a terrific role as Bumpy Johnson. Giancarlo Esposito and Vincent D'Onofrio are also very good in this show. I remember Laurence Fishburne played Bumpy in the movie "Hoodlum" and Clarence Williams III had a short role as Bumpy in American Gangster. So far this show is awesome. I also like the actor who plays Malcolm X and I can't wait to see the actor who is going to portray Muhammad Ali in next week's episode.
