Grace and Frankie Reviews & Ratings

Fridays, 3:00 AM ET on Netflix

30 minutes

Grace and Frankie stars Jane Fonda (“Grace”) and Lily Tomlin (“Frankie”) as a pair of frenemies whose lives are turned upside down - and permanently intertwined - when their husbands leave them for each other. From executive producers Marta Kaufmann (“Friends”) and Howard Morris (“Home Improvement”), the funny and fearless series takes on aging with gusto, as Grace and Frankie face starting over in their 70s in a 21st Century world, from facelifts to Facebook, joint pain to joint rolling and blind dates to night blindness. The comedic drama also stars Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston, along with Brooklyn Decker, Ethan Embry, Baron Vaughn and June Diane Raphael.

Glorious in every way! It's such a refreshing comedy!

Now they need to bring in Dolly Parton for Season 2.

I love everyone involved, I think the issues they tackle are so important and I love the fact that Sheen and Waterston's characters are being true to themselves, that's wonderful.

But, I can't bear the writing, it's dated, by at least 10-15 years. Never in my life did I think that I would not be able to sit through a show with my idol, Martin Sheen, plus the exceptional Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Sam Waterston. I like the juxtaposition of how Waterston's character is eagerly embracing his new life whilst Sheen's character is wanting to take things much, much slower - and quieter! It's a good way of showing their conflcting views.

I'm also not sure that Sheen's casting was the best idea as he seems disconnected from so much of the show - and I've sat through the West Wing box set several times so it's not that I don't love him and his acting.

Fonda and Tomlin, I don't know, I just can't make out what the writers are wanting to say - about the MAIN characters. I want to like this show and find out what it's about. But after five episodes, I gave up in dismay at the writing. It's hard to watch great actors with not so good material. As I said, I want to like this show, I want to, SO much.

So much, that I'll watch the first couple of eps of Season 2, just to see if its improved. It's only my opinion, I just wish they (the writers) had put more effort into keeping it relevant and emotional. This is the show I should be eagerly binge watching over and over or eking out ep by ep just so I can enjoy it even just for a moment longer. I am so sad that it's not, as the opening episodes were fantastic. But, sometimes shows lose their way ('Lost') and then come back better than ever - I dearly hope this is one of them.

I'm not even half way through watching this show and I love it. The chemistry between Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin is perfect. Plus, I really love seeing Martin Sheen back in a TV show. The switch from watching Sam Waterston on The Newsroom to this was nice. Overall, the main characters are enjoyable and I feel like this story is something that many older people may be able to relate to.

This show is such a delight to watch. Stellar cast, great humour, and portrays important things we rarely see onscreen: older women having relationships and a gay couple that actually kisses!

Love the cast, they are amazing. I don't know how I'd react after a lifetime together finding out my husband was having an affair with his business partner (also a man, in case you didn't know) and they want to get married. It's a journey for them all and we get to watch them struggling and succeeding and laughing through it all.

Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are great together and I am so happy to see them on the screen again.

All I can say: it is hilarious. I do not like comedy and rarely watch. But this is my kind of comedy. Real, subtle and healthy.
Rare kind of friendship these days.

This is truly a "laugh-out-loud" show. I was hooked after the first 5 minutes. The characters are so well written and they really compliment each-other. Well done!

Look I'm not sure who this show is for. But I guess this would be like watching my mum move in with a hippie.
The idea is so great and of course the cast has pedigree like no body's business but in the end it's a disaster.
While Sam Waterston brings the gravtas of the Las&Order ADA with him to this broad comedy everyone else seems to be playing this incredibly BROAD.
Jane Fonda, god bless her septegenearian heart, is working SO HARD that her over the top performance is uncomfortable to watch.
Lilly Tomlin flashes the brilliance of 9-5 and Big Business but that kind of acting was cutting edge 20 years ago. It just feels dated and obvious next to amazing modern comedies like Transparent.
The best parts are Lily and Sam together as they have genuine chemistry on screen and you can see the lives they led and the wrench the truth is for them.
However Martin Sheen just isn't as strong on screen in his scenes and his more quiet performance feels false as well.
The set ups are obvious and its both sickly and well worn storytelling.
A real missed opportunity to tap into a new audience with some classic comedic and dramatic talents.
