TV ratings: 'American Idol' dips Thursday, but others rebound; 'Big Bang Theory' leads night in 18-49

Fast National ratings for Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012For the most part, shows that cratered in last Thursday's ratings rebounded some last night. A notable exception was "American Idol," which fell by more than a million viewers and six tenths of a point in adults 18-49 compared to its numbers at 8 o'clock last week. "The Big Bang Theory," meanwhile, claimed the night's top adults 18-49 rating and also topped "Idol" in viewers in their common half-hour. "The Office" also perked up a little after last week's low, while "Grey's Anatomy" and "Person of Interest" each grew in total viewers.CBS ended up on top among total viewers, averaging 13.65 million and an 8.3 rating/13 share in households for the night. FOX (10.8 million, 6.5/10) finished second, a good ways ahead of ABC (6.8 million, 4.5/7). NBC was up a little over last week, but only to 3.3 million viewers and a 2.1/3. The CW (1.1 million,... //

Fast National ratings for Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012FOX scored a ratings win Thursday night with a two-hour edition of "American Idol," but its numbers in the 8 o'clock hour were off from last week. 90 Seconds On 'Grey's Anatomy'/'Private Practice' Crossover

It was time again for Shonda Rhimes' two hit shows to crossover, as well as two siblings who haven't always gotten along: Amelia Shepherd and her brother Derek. As Derek stars on " Grey's Anatomy " (Thu., 9 p.m. EST On ABC), while Amelia is on " Private Practice " (Thu., 10 p.m. EST On ABC), anytime these siblings get together, it's technically a crossover. But this time, the stakes couldn't have been higher. This time, they need to put aside their differences and come together to save a life that probably means more to fans of "Practice" than "Grey's." After all, it's the mother of Cooper's child, Erica, who's basically lying at death's door with a brain tumor. To make matters worse, the procedure they need to perform has never been done before, and it needs to be done within a 90 second window or it will essentially leave her brain dead. So either do the surgery and risk that, or don't do it, and she'll likely perish. No wonder it took two hours of television to build to that climactic moment. It was a tense minute-and-a-half once the clock started ticking, but the doctors managed to finish with five seconds to spare. No one seemed more surprised by their success than Erica herself. In recovery, she marveled as she showed she could life and wave her hand. "I'm alive!" she said with a smile, as Cooper and their son looked on in relief. It all came down to 90 seconds, but it was 90 seconds that gave her a second chance at life. "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice" air back-to-back on Thursdays starting at 9 p.m. EST on ABC. TV Replay scours the vast television landscape to find the most interesting, amusing, and, on a good day, amazing moments, and delivers them right to your browser. //

Grey's Anatomy Review: Two Shepherds, One Battle.

Grey’s Anatomy returned tonight with " Have You Seen Me Lately? ," the first hour in the GA/Private Practice Crossover Event. There were a few intense surgeries and an even bigger battle. Time to discuss. Study Buddy. Boards are coming up for the residents and Webber has convinced Callie to work with Meredith. This is totally the right move. These two are both hardcore and do not get paired up enough. Watching them work together will most definitely be entertaining, especially if they continue to work on cases like putting a toe on a hand! Callie’s study methods may be the thing to help Mer prove she is as good as her last name. In typical Alex fashion, he used his pregnant intern to help him study. The real Alex made an appearance when she had a heart attack and a premature baby. There is no other resident that is more perfect for Peds. He may be cynical but he loves saving those kids. The only issue is that the writers are all across the board with him. He’s sweet and caring one week, a jackass the next. The cycle goes round and round. We have seen real progress made for this character and it’s time to see him move forward. Or get a love interest. Balls in your court, Shonda. Read More... //
