I'm thrilled to announce full season orders for both of these terrific new series.   Read More... //www.thewrap.com/flash-jane-the-virgin-get-full-season-orders-from-cw/

The Most Important Shows on TV: Week of October 27, 2014

Which TV series will your friends (and the entire internet) be talking about this week? Stay informed—or at least be able to fake it—with SideReel's weekly guide to The Most Important Shows on TV.   Jane the Virgin Monday at 9:00pm  on  The CW Why:  This earnest telenovela-ish series is the best new show of the season with winning performances all around. So much has happened so far (Jane gets accidentally inseminated! The father is her boss/ex-crush! His jerk wife was cheating on him but that guy is dead now! Jane's dad is a telenovela star! Luisa, the doctor who inseminated Jane—and who is also the baby's father's sister—used to sleep with the woman who is now her STEP-MOTHER!) that each episode is like starting a whole new mystery! Prepare to talk about:  Who really killed Rafael's best friend/Petra's secret lover? What's with Petra's mom's scar? When will Jane get to meet her dad? How soon before Jane leaves her fiancé for Rafael? WHAT'S WITH LUISA SLEEPING WITH HER STEP-MOTHER?   Scandal Thursday at 9pm  on  ABC Why:  Fitz is going to make a "shocking move." Shocking even by  Scandal  standards? Remains to be seen, but given how much is shocking on this show, be ready for something  gigante . Meanwhile, a convicted assassin will attempt to enlist Olivia's help (see shocking picture to the left), and MELLIE will be MELLIE. We heart you, Mellie. Prepare to talk about:  Fitz's "shocking move" (it was so shocking!); whether Olivia might have a...  problem  with wine; how Mellie deserves better, or—just throwing this out there—maybe how Mellie should travel back to  Mad Men  times and hook up with the somewhat-reformed Pete Campbell. Those two always get screwed. They could really be good for each other.      Saturday Night Live Saturday at 11:30pm  on  NBC Why:  Chris Rock hosts and Prince is the musical guest. One would be reason enough, but the two of them together? Why would you even try to avoid something so cramazing? Prepare to talk about:  How this seems to be the ultimate "former cast members return as hosts"  SNL  season; how Prince manages to stay so sexy; how Chris Rock is (probably) infinitely better than the material  SNL  gives him.     Leah E. Friedman  is the editor of SideReel.com. You can follow her musings on  Twitter .
