Review of Killjoys

Fridays, 10:00 PM ET on SyFy

60 minutes

From the producers of Orphan Black (Temple Street Productions) and the creator of Lost Girl (Michelle Lovretta), Killjoys follows a fun-loving, hard living trio of interplanetary bounty hunters sworn to remain impartial as they chase deadly warrants throughout the Quad, a distant system on the brink of a bloody, multiplanetary class war.

I watched the first episode of this show with some skepticism; the name is a little cheesy so I wasn't expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised! Sometimes the acting can be a little bit cheesy (I'm looking at you, Luke McFarland) but I'm really into it regardless. Something that I'm really enjoying about this show is the setting: it takes place in a region called The Quad, which is made up of a planet called Qresh and its three moons: Westerly, Lieth, and Arkyn. The Quad is ruled by somewhat of a caste system, which is something that adds political intrigue and makes the show a lot more interesting than if it were just about three random space bounty hunters tracking the warrant of the week. I just watched the final episode of the seaason (written by series creator Michelle Lovretta) and I really enjoyed how well the finale tied the season together - my only criticism is that if this show happens to get canceled instead of renewed, it will leave me wondering what happens next.
