Kolchak's impact on popular culture has been substantial. It's been called the predecessor to the X-Files.

The X-Files creator, Chris Carter, has stated that Kolchak, more than The Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits, influenced him in his work. He wanted McGavin to appear on the X-Files as Kolchak, but he didn't want to reprise that roll. He did appear as Arthur Dales, a retired FBI agent described as the "father of the X-Files".

In the 3rd episode of the 2016 revival series, a character featured in the episode, Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster, is conspicuously attired in Kolchak's trademark seersucker jacket, black knit tie, and straw hat.

It's a different series and worth giving a watch if you can find it.
