Syfy Renews Krypton for Season 2

Syfy has renewed Krypton for Season 2, which is expected to arrive in 2019. The Superman (pre-)prequel has been the NBCUniversal cable channels most-watched freshman show since 2014s Ascension, according to Nielsen ratings. With the Season 1 finale still to come tomorrow night, this has actually been Syfys most-watched run for any scripted series since Defiance in 2015. Set two generations before the destruction of Supermans home planet, Krypton follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), the legendary Man of Steels grandfather, as a young man who is faced with a life and death conflict save his home planet or let it be destroyed to restore the fate of his future grandson, per Syfy. In Season 1, with Kryptons leadership in disarray and the House of El ostracized, Seg found himself in a difficult position: redeem his familys honor and protect the ones he loves, while being challenged by familiar DC characters Brainiac and Earthly time-traveler Adam Strange.   ...Read More... https://www.thewrap.com/syfy-renews-krypton-for-season-2/

The Most Important Shows on TV: Week of March 19, 2018

Which TV series will your friends (and the entire internet) be talking about this week? Stay informed — or at least be able to fake it — with SideReel's weekly guide to The Most Important Shows on TV.   Krypton (Series Premiere) Wednesday at 10:00 pm on Syfy Why: Krypton has been buzzed about since the film Man of Steel was released, when it was rumored that screenplay writer David S. Goyer wanted to create a prequel series. At long last this series has found its way to Syfy, as part of its new less traditional science-fiction, more fantasy and super-heroes direction. Unfortunately, most early reviews have found the series to be confusing and bland . In fact the best thing that has been said about it is that it shows some potential , but would be better without all the convoluted Superman stuff, which is the only reason why the show was made in the first place. In this prequel, someone from the future (so yes, there's time travel) wants to destroy Krypton , which would prevent Superman from existing. Therefore, past Krypton needs to be saved even though we all know it's eventually doomed anyway. So, why is this show important even if all signs point to it being kind of bad? People sure do love the Superman universe and fans are often willing to put up with a lot in the hopes that something will improve. Hey, it worked for Supergirl ! Prepare to talk about: How we are kind of feeling the urge to watch early episodes of Smallville now.   Station 19 (Series Premiere) Thursday at 9:00 pm on ABC Why: ABC has been promising us Station 19 (although it was just the Untitled Grey's Spinoff until January 2018) for what seems like forever. We've been talking about this spinoff for so long that one might also forget that we've already had *another* quite successful Grey's spinoff - Private Practice - that itself aired for 6 seasons, and has been off the air already for over 5 years (my, how the time flies). This time, instead of staying within the medical sphere, Shondaland takes on a Seattle fire department. In a setup that still seems more far-fetched than I would like, Dr. Ben Warren (that's Mr. Miranda Bailey), possibly the most indecisive character in the Grey's universe, decides after switching from anesthesiology to surgery that he now wants to be a firefighter instead - it's simply more exciting. The show's female lead, Andy Warren (played by Jaina Lee Ortiz) was also introduced in a Grey's episode this season. As it turns out, she's the daughter of the station's captain, Pruitt Herrera (played by Miguel Sandoval), so we can expect plenty of the family drama that Shondaland shows thrive on. Station 19 likely will have an uphill battle. It has a lot it will be compared to: Grey's, Private Practice, and NBC's Chicago Fire . We look forward to seeing if the series can make people as excited about fires in Seattle as they seem to be about fires in Chicago. Prepare to talk about: How we kind of miss Private Practice ; how Rescue Me was actually the greatest firefighter show of all time; how we wonder if this spinoff is unsuccessful if Ben will decide to become a surgeon again.   Silicon Valley (Season Premiere) Sunday at 10 pm on HBO We've already encouraged you to watch/re-watch the first four seasons of Silicon Valley in our March binge guide earlier this month and at long last, it is time for Season 5 to premiere. While Veep has certainly been the signature comedy of HBO throughout the duration of Silicon Valley 's run, we shouldn't forget that SV is a great comedy in its own right, nominated for multiple Emmys include Best Comedy series for each of its seasons (it lost Best Comedy to Veep for the past 3 years, and to Modern Family in its first year, back when Modern Family was winning every Emmy - again, how time flies). In its 5th season, the show is not showing any signs of its age; though it arguably is retelling some version of the same story each season, it has still managed to keep things fresh. The big news is that T.J. Miller departed at the end of Season 4 - he was left in a Tibetan opium den, so while the option seems to be open for him to return someday, it seems unlikely based on these comments . Though this might seem like a loss to some, I actually think this will be a positive change for the series; while Erlich *could* be funny at times, I certainly found his character to be one of the show's more frustrating/grating ones overall. Prepare to talk about: Are you happy or sad that T.J. Miller is gone; how many ways will the Pied Piper guys mess up this season?; office dogs.   Rachel is the product manager of SideReel, and she must confess that she has watched every episode of Grey's Anatomy , but has zero interest in Station 19 . div.post p { text-align: justify; }

Why Krypton Isn't Actually a Superman Prequel

  Krypton premiered on Syfy tonight, and for Superman lovers, this show is pretty much a treasure trove of comic book lore. The one thing it's not, however, is a prequel. Game of Thrones Alum Joins Syfys Krypton as Gender-Flipped Jax-Ur

Game of Thrones alum Hannah Waddingham has been cast in Syfys Krypton in a gender-flipped role. The actress, who memorably played the bell-ringing, shame-slinging Septa Unella in the HBO series, will recur on the Superman prequel series as a female version of the comic book character Jax-Ur. Jax-Ur was previously one of Kryptons greatest scientists with deep ties to the planets past, but when the events of Krypton pick up, the character is determined to bring radical change as leader of the underground terrorist organization, Black Zero. In the comics, the character has traditionally been male.  ...Read More... https://www.thewrap.com/game-of-thrones-alum-joins-syfys-krypton-in-gender-flipped-role/

Why Krypton Is Filmed in the UK, Not Vancouver

Fans in the know will tell you the DC universe is mainly based out of Vancouver at least it is shotthere. But Syfys new series Krypton is unlike its sister programs. Executive producer David S. Goyer wanted the characters on his show about Supermans origins to have British accents, which is why he decided to move the shows production across the pond. Specifically, you know the main reason is and this will sound kind of funny, but theres this, I think when people think of fantasy or science fiction when you think of accents, for whatever reason, the Mid-Atlantic or British accent is the default accent when youre dealing with an alien world, Goyer said during the Krypton panel at the Television Critics Association press tour on Thursday. ...Read More... https://www.thewrap.com/why-krypton-is-filmed-in-the-uk-not-vancouver-accent/
