This will not be for everyone. London Spy is obviously made in Europe, which is made evident in everything from the story to the way it has been filmed. I find it delightfully different from much of the other spy/drama/crime that is out there on the market. The performances are stellar and who can't deal with sitting through only four episodes - I know I can, and you should too.

Intriguing, mesmerising, excellent performances by some Britain's best actors. A conspiracy spy story without moral barriers or puritanisms.

Discounting this show , after watching first episode, as a gay romance tv series , will be a great loss on your part as you will deny yourself a chance to see an amazing adaptation of a espionage masterpiece that was apparently inspired by true events. Based on Tom Rob Smith's bestseller, under 'achingly' beautiful direction of Verbruggen, this gripping story will pin you on the edge of your seat; whilst entwining events of deceit and pursuit, unfolds a poignant love story. As if the part was written exclusively for him,Whishaw excels himself, bringing acting to new level, redefining articulation of expressions of full spectrum of complex emotions. Stellar performances by immaculate Broadbent and Rampling.

Though it's a splendidly acted and well-written spy drama that's thoroughly thought out, London Spy's need to focus on homosexual issues, while important and impactful, boggles down the plot some. The conspiracy that stems from the death is one that may prove to be both difficult to follow and hard to decipher unless fully invested in.

I want to say this before delving into the review. This isn't a gay drama, rather it's a suspenseful drama featuring several gay characters. I'll put one spoiler in my review. There are two instances of sex between men, but you don't see any genitals, just bodies on top of each other engaged in thrusting motions. I'm adding this spoiler because I have a weekly thing where my mom and I watch British TV, and this is one show I wish I'd screened before making it our selection. Needless to say, she left the room. Now on to the review. This is a slow building story, but if you're a frequent watcher of British TV then this shouldn't be an issue. It's a type of romance, insofar as two characters meet, spend time together, and have sex but it won't make you gush. There's aspect of mystery, though more so suspense. As far as realism, I can't attest because I don't have any spies in my Rolodex who can say whether the secret revealed and the consequential steps taken to maintain the secret are plausible. Realism may prove a deal-breaker for those with spies on speed dial. The best compliment I can give this mini-series is that if it were a book, written as well as the show, I'd read it and recommend it. Don't let critic reviews or the LGBT classification dissuade you, it's good TV.

I binged it in an afternoon. So happy. The show felt like classic British series from the 60’s….moody and tightly wound, and kind of random. I can’t say anything to anyone who hasn’t seen it, because every 10 seconds it seems like a plot turn occurs. Ben Whishaw is always nice to look at, and he makes Danny by turns fragile and sharp. Can we have some more, please ?

It's one of those stories you don't want to watch because it is dark, sad and cruel. On the other hand the suspense compelles you to watch. We hurt along with him through his struggle to find truth, love and honor. It's not a happy story yet it shows you the lengths and the risks that someone is willing to take in the name of someone they truly love. This is a true love story encased in the world of espionage and murder.

Brilliant acting and writing. A very European take on sexuality. If you have issues with a gay lifestyle, this in not for you. I was so intrigued and drawn into the story none of that mattered. In fact it makes for a more intriguing story.

slow drama, could have been tighter considering it's a mystery thriller.
