The catalyst for that plot is the death of a Navy captain and the costume under his uniform. Although Leroy Jethro Gibbs got to see how his life could have played out differently on the landmark 200th episode of NCIS , he decided he wouldn't have it any other way. After being fired at while enjoying his morning cup of coffee at a diner, Gibbs ( Mark Harmon ) was led by the ghosts of Mike Franks ( Muse Watson ), Riley McCallister ( Michael O'Neill ) and Gibbs' wife Shannon ( Darby Stanchfield ) to some of the defining moments of Gibbs' life and the series. What if Gibbs had stopped a sniper from killing agent Kate Todd ( Sasha Alexander )? What if Gibbs hadn't killed the man who murdered his family? And what if Gibbs hadn't been an NCIS agent at all? //

TV ratings: 'The River' starts modestly for ABC, 'NCIS' 200th scores for CBS Tuesday

Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012The 200th episode of "NCIS" delivered big numbers for CBS Tuesday night, leading the network to an across-the-board ratings win in primetime. "The River," meanwhile, didn't make a very big splash for ABC with its two-hour premiere.Elsewhere, "Glee" came down some after last week's Michael Jackson-fueled bump, and "Ringer" fell in its second week back on The CW.CBS ran away with the total-viewer title for the night, drawing 16.2 million people and a 10.1 rating/16 share in households. That was more than double the total for second-place ABC (7.6 million, 4.7/7). FOX took third with 6.75 million viewers and a 4.1/6, topping NBC's 5.8 million and 3.7/6. The CW (1.25 million, 0.8/1) was well off the pace.The adults 18-49 battle was a lot closer, but CBS still came out on top, scoring a 3.1 rating to edge out FOX's 3.0. 'NCIS' 200th episode: Gibbs' wonderful life

For the 200th episode of "NCIS," the show went a little "Wonderful Life," a little "Christmas Carol" and a little "Quantum Leap," as Agent Gibbs is shot in his favorite diner and before the bullet reaches him, real time freezes and Gibbs gets to look at his life and decisions so far.Gibbs, with the help of Mike Franks, Riley McAllister and Shannon Gibbs, gets to take a look at what his life would have been like if he had spotted the sniper who killed Kate, or not gone to exact revenge on Hernandez (the drug dealer who murdered his wife and daughter), or if Shannon had not testified, not been killed and Gibbs had stayed a Marine. In the end, Gibbs makes the decision not to fire back at the person who is firing on him in the diner, who is revealed to be Steven, the son of a suspect in the agency's latest case.... //

Lord of the Rings' Sean Astin to Guest-Star on NCIS

The Super Bowl may not quite set a ratings record for the third straight year -- but it could come awfully close.Metered-market ratings for Super Bowl XLVI show the game scoring a 47.8 rating/71 share in Nielsen's metered-market ratings, which for live broadcasts are sometimes a better indicator of the audience than the fast national ratings, which are below. That's just a tenth of a point behind the last two Super Bowls, which are the No. 1 and No. 2 telecasts in U.S. television history.Following the game, the premiere of "The Voice" scored a 19.4/33 in the metered markets, considerably better than FOX's broadcast of "Glee" (15.3/27) last year.... //
