Netflix released the first 13 episodes of "Orange Is the New Black" to subscribers on Thursday, and if viewers enjoy it as much as the reviewers are, then the company's decision to renew the series for a second season last month will prove to have been a wise one. "Orange Is the New Black" is an interesting addition to Netflix's original content line-up. It comes from "Weeds" creator Jenji Kohan, features a largely female cast, and is set primarily in a female-only prison. It mixes big names like Jason Biggs, Taylor Schilling and Laura Prepon with relative unknowns like Uzo Aduba and Danielle Brooks, and walks a fine line between dark comedy and straight drama. That means "Orange Is the New Black" will find itself quite at home with Netflix's other original shows, including "Arrested Development" Season 4 and "Lilyhammer." Orange is the New Black might not have the hype of Arrested Development or House of Cards , but it is by far the most satisfying original series Netflix has released this year.
