Outlander 1.08 Review: “Both Sides Now”

I want to begin tonight’s review of  Outlander  by praising Tobias Menzies, who elevates every scene that he’s in. His dual roles as Frank/Jon Randall are so important to the show; not just in terms of plot, but how real he makes these people. Frank is a distinct character from Jon, but they’re not mirror opposites. Frank’s rage at losing Claire pushes him to the edge, but the difference between Frank and Jon is that Frank chooses to be better. In a show about agency and choice, he is one of the good guys. “Good God.” Good God indeed. Tonight’s episode stepped out of Claire’s head and expanded the Outlander Universe. We went back and forth in time, but without Claire; present-day Frank is our avatar for significant time. We get to see him as a character without Claire’s perspective, and it’s telling that he’s exactly the same kind, warm, gentle human being that he was without her. His rage at Claire’s disappearance, the police work done to find her, the thugs trying to shake him down; all of these things are reasonable responses to his loss of Claire. But when he realizes that he is turning into someone that isn’t reasonable, turning back into a soldier, he decides to move on. That is who Frank is: he tries to be better, no matter the cost. Outlander Season 1 Episode 8 Review: Both Sides Now

There’s good news and not so good news in  Outlander Season 1 Episode 8 . Let’s just jump to the not so good news : this is the mid-season finale, meaning the drama does not return until April 4, 2015. Hold tight, though, Outlander Fanatics. We can get through this together. Largely because there was plenty of  good  news in this solid episode, written by none other than Ron Moore himself and directed by Anne Foerester.  Read More... //www.tvfanatic.com/2014/09/outlander-season-1-episode-8-review-both-sides-now/

Outlander Mid-Season Finale: So Much Dizzying Back and Forth and Not Nearly Enough Sex

This show made us wait until the seventh episode for Claire and Jamie to get right with the world. So it makes sense ... go with me on this ... that I would make you wait a full week for the recap of the final episode before Outlander s long hiatus. Or thats an elaborate way of admitting I was on a book tour all week and had to catch up at work and then, finally , on Friday night, I was able to sequester myself and watch this mid-season finale of Outlander.   Read More... //www.vulture.com/2014/10/outlander-recap-season-1-midseason-finale-both-sides-now.html

OUTLANDER: "BOTH SIDES NOW" REVIEW

The wedding night is over and since the final shot of last week's episode was Claire looking at both her rings, it's only appropriate that we jump ahead to the 1940s and touch base with Frank. After recently seeing Tobias Menzies as the sadistic Black Jack Randall, it was jarring to see him as the confused and frustrated Frank. Claire's been missing for six weeks (it feels like longer!) and witnessing Frank's current state was enough to make me feel guilty about enjoying the wedding last week. It was a way to make viewers understand what's happening in Claire's head – you can see why she's torn. Read More... //www.ign.com/articles/2014/09/28/outlander-both-sides-now-review

Outlander “Both Sides Now” Video Review (Episode 8) – 2014 Finale

It seems like  Outlander  barely started and it’s already ending… at least for this year. While the show will return for the second part of its first season on April 4th, 2015, I still had a few thoughts to share on the final episode for the year “Both Sides Now.” Read More... //www.tvequals.com/2014/09/29/outlander-sides-now-video-review-episode-8-2014-finale/

Outlander “Both Sides Now” Video Review (Episode 8) – 2014 Finale

It seems like  Outlander  barely started and it’s already ending… at least for this year. While the show will return for the second part of its first season on April 4th, 2015, I still had a few thoughts to share on the final episode for the year “Both Sides Now.” In my video review, I discuss Frank’s search for Claire, Claire and Frank’s almost reunion, Claire’s new encounter with Black Jack, and more. Well, that was a cliffhanger. Outlander 's been all about the slow-burn all season, and the midseason finale followed in that tradition handily.   Read More... //feeds.gawker.com/~r/io9/full/~3/KVTyY5ZKzWI/outlander-delivers-a-giant-cliffhanger-before-leaving-u-1640215018

Outlander Mid-Season Finale Review: The Honeymoon Is Over
