'Parks and Recreation' Season 6: With Rashida Jones out, who will be Leslie's new BFF?

When news broke that both Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe would be stepping away from "Parks and Recreation" permanently midway through the comedy's upcoming sixth season, it became clear that Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) would find herself adrift without her best friend Ann Perkins.Who might fill the void in Leslie's life? Executive producer Mike Schur spoke with TV Line, telling the website that the series will "position different people to fill in parts of her emotional world. It won't be just one person."Schur continues, "There's something that April (Aubrey Plaza) does in the [London-set, Sept. 26] premiere that's sort of a harbinger of things to come. And we're bringing Retta a lot more to the forefront this season. Donna and Leslie will have some good connections and some good screen time together."But Schur is realistic about that fact that Ann's exit won't lead to a simple plugging of a hole with another character. In this week's episode (Monday, Aug. 5 at 10 p.m. ET), Amy Poehler, Mike Schur and the "Parks and Recreation" writers reveal how they land their political guests, including Vice President Joe Biden, Newt Gingrich, John McCain, Barbara Boxer and Olympia Snowe. "Occasionally ... I sometimes meet politicians who like and follow the show and kind of want to be on it, which is really cool," Poehler said in the exclusive clip above. Schur said if the politicians haven't seen the NBC comedy, their staff has. In the case of Vice President Biden, Schur said the veep said he gets a lot of requests to do things, but "Parks and Rec" was the one gig he and his staff felt like he should do. "He was so great. He was so fun," Schur noted. Poehler explained that she and Biden improvised. Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe leaving 'Parks and Recreation'

Sad news, "Parks and Recreation" fans: Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe are leaving the NBC comedy. BuzzFeed's sources confirm that both actors will leave in the upcoming Season 6, reportedly in episode 13 (which is expected to air during February sweeps). Neither NBC nor Jones and Lowe's representatives commented on the story. Considering the direction Chris and Ann's story arc was headed in Season 5, it seems pretty clear how these two could be written out. The pair was trying to have a baby together, and doing so could cause them to decide to settle down and move away from Pawnee. However they are written out, it will likely be emotional. Jones has been with the show from the get-go, while Lowe was introduced in Season 2 at the same time as Adam Scott's Ben Wyatt. "Parks and Recreation" returns with an hour-long premiere on Sept. 26. Heidi Klum and Henry Winkler will guest in... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/07/rashida-jones-and-rob-lowe-leaving-parks-and-recreation.html
