Fox Cancels 'Past Life' (Again)

For the next two weeks, Fox will be airing reruns of ' The Good Guys ' on Friday nights in place of ' Past Life ,' according to Variety. Supernatural detective series 'Past Life' was canceled back in February after only three episodes had been aired. FOX has been showing the remaining episodes on Friday nights, with the last two due to be aired on June 11 and 18. However, execs have now decided to cancel the series (again), replacing it with repeats of 'House' and 'The Good Guys.' 'The Good Guys' is a comedy-drama about an old-school, hard-drinking cop (Bradley Whitford) who's been paired with a young, ambitious cop with an attitude problem (Colin Hanks). Despite generally good reviews, the pilot episode of the Dallas-set show didn't generate huge ratings, winning only a marginally larger audience than a rerun of 'Lie to Me' in the same time slot the previous week. FOX hopes to give the new show a boost by pairing it with 'House' reruns on Friday nights. Previously aired episodes from season 6 of 'House' will be shown at 8PM ET Friday nights, with repeats of the previous Monday's episodes of 'The Good Guys' being shown at 9PM ET. New episodes of 'The Good Guys' air on FOX, Mondays at 9PM ET. The show will then return in the fall, on Fridays at 9PM ET. (More on that here.) Source Here

Cancellation Buzz: FOX Dumps 'Past Life' - Featured

From THR: Reincarnation crime drama Past Life isn't coming back -- at least, not to Thursdays. Fox is yanking the struggling and widely panned series after three episodes, including last night's fourth-place performance, where it drew a 1.1 preliminary rating among adults 18-49. Instead, Fox will air three weeks of original episodes of "Kitchen Nightmares" in the slot (with "Nightmares" also continuing to air on Friday nights). Bones and Fringe repeats will take over March 18, with originals returning April 1. Fox says the remaining episodes of "Past Life" will be burned off sometime later this season. Source

Tuesday Ratings: Ellen Gives Idol a Boost; Lost Takes a Dip - Featured

Ellen DeGeneres' debut behind American Idol's judging table lifted the Fox hit's numbers as it remained Tuesday's most-watched program. Idol's first night of Hollywood Week drew 27.7 million viewers, climbing 12 percent in the adults-18-to-49 demographic from the previous week and 4 percent in total viewers from Season 8's first night of Hollywood Week. Placing second at 8/7c was NCIS (19.7 million viewers), which took a small dip. NBC's Biggest Loser struggled against the tough competition in the first hour, but improved greatly in its second, averaging 9.5 million viewers overall. At 9/8c, Lost drew 11.2 million viewers, and won the hour among the demo, even though ratings fell by 11 percent from the show's Season 6 premiere. NCIS: Los Angeles (17.8 million viewers) was the hour's most-watched show, but the new Fox drama Past Life (9 million viewers) held only a third of Idol's lead-in. The Good Wife (14.7 million viewers) handily defeated a new episode of The Forgotten, which got an uptick following Lost. The final episode of The Jay Leno Show was watched by 5.7 million viewers.
