5 Reasons We Love Watching: 'Playing House'

Playing House is the second comedy created by and starring Lennon Parham and Jessica St. Clair (whose Best Friends Forever will forever be on my personal canceled-too-soon list). They play childhood friends who come to each other's aid and create their own quirky, loving family. The show is smart, funny, and full of heart, but it's not exactly a runaway success. It's both a victim of Peak TV — getting lost in the noise of prestige dramas, bloody battle sequences, and gently funny "comedies" — and a beneficiary of this era's insatiable hunger for more content. It's the little show that could, never receiving the respect it deserves, even from its own network, but surviving thanks to its loyal (and social media-savvy) fans and the winning personalities of its co-creators and leading ladies. If you need more persuading, here are five reasons why you should check out Playing House , airing on USA Network . 5. Bosephus and Jandana! Maggie’s alter ego, Bosephus, is described as a "rusty circus roustabout." He appears from time to time with his main lady, Jandana, usually to help someone get out of a jam. They are total relationship goals.       4. Everyone in the cast, from Maggie's creepy brother (Zach Woods) to frenemy Bird Bones (Lindsay Sloane) to the OB/GYN (guest star Larry Wilmore), is bringing it.         3. Rising above all the others, however, is Keegan-Michael Key as Mark Rodriguez, delivering heat, charm, and laughs.         2. From lingo to nutrition, Parham and St. Clair are teaching us everything we need to know to live our best lives.       1. With all due respect to Amy and Tina, Jess and Len are television's real BFFs.         div.reason h3 { clear: both; padding-top: 30px; } div.reason img { float: left; width: 400px; } div.reason img.grid { float: left; width: 315px; } div.reason p { clear: both; }
