Review of Queen Sugar

Wednesdays, 9:00 PM ET on OWN

60 minutes

"Queen Sugar" chronicles the lives and loves of the estranged Bordelon siblings in Saint Josephine, Louisiana: Charley, the savvy wife and manager of an NBA star; Nova, a world-wise journalist and activist; and Ralph Angel, a formerly incarcerated young father in search of redemption. After a family tragedy, the Bordelons must navigate the triumphs and struggles of their complicated lives in order to run an ailing sugarcane farm in the Deep South.

Struggling to understand what this show is about. I persevered through season 1 and unfortunately, season 2 so far hasn't delivered anything new. It's overly long with what feels like self indulgent pauses - without which an episode could probably be 20 minutes. And rather than having any affinity for the characters, I'm starting to dislike all the characters (apart from maybe Violet). I'll slug through the next 2 episodes and if they prove just as lacklustre, I'll be putting this show in my out tray.
